Hello

Anyone else experience infections in your urinary tract, or strange stinging/prickly sensations around your urethra?

I'm now two weeks into a five year course, and this evening developed these symptoms. I don't know whether it's the start of an infection I need to see my GP for (to get a course of antibiotics) or if it's a side effect of the Tamoxifen, as I've read the drug can affect the urinary tract.

Your experiences and any advice very much appreciated.

Thank you

Fonty

  • Hi , sorry you are experiencing this. Lack of oestrogen can give soreness/irritation in the urinary tract as well as the vagina. It could be a UTI so it is probably best to get the practice  nurse to test your urine. Good luck xxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • am with on this one. I am fairly sure most drugs that inhibit oestrogen production can have as an SE the weakening of lining to the bladder thus causing UTI's. So pick up the phone and go see the GP

    Best of luck

  • Hi Fonty, I changed to tamoxifen 6 months ago after getting UTI’s from being on Letrozole after 2 years. Now getting them again. On tamoxifen you can use Ovestin which is a cream you insert. Perhaps ask your doctor for that. I have just started to use it and although it says twice a week I think I need it more than that. It has a tiny bit of estrogen in it which is localised so not much of a risk. It does help with the UTI’s and I think more effective than antibiotics. I found they didn’t help much. Let me know you have any tips as I know your post is old. Thanks
