It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • ...so sorry about your Mom...I know what it feels like ....

just a thought...when you said she becomes paranoid when in Hospital...was this following anaesthetic? My Dad went quite strange thinking the Germans were coming etc etc,and the Doctors put it down to the after effects of the anaesthetic.Just a thought....

    anyway..(((hugs)))xx

  • Hi Eddiboy and Violetsniff,

Hope you both managed some zzzzz’s?

I woke at 6.30-ish, (loo!) and then slept till just before 9! Result! Especially after the concert when I didn’t get to bed till 11.30-ish and never go straight off to sleep.

Why do men sleep the moment their heads hit the pillow and we ladies take a good hour or so? It’s a question I’ve always asked myself but never managed to come up with a decent answer!

    Grey wet morning hugs xxx

  • I do hope your mam has been seen,  improves and gets back home soon   xx

  • Hi Eddiboy,

Any news on your Mum? Hope she's ok and has been seen, and will be home asap......thinking of you lovey.

Realising improvement and progress, last week after daughter's concert I was in pain and couldn't wait to get back home, too much pain to sleep straight away too. Last night? I know I took a cushion for my back (same style wooden chairs) but I could almost have gone for a drink after the concert! So yes, I'm getting stronger!

Also getting odd nerve twinges so nerve endings are growing.

  • Yes it’s really pleasing when you realise you’re definitely making progress, isn’t it?!

    How are you doing?

  • Hi @moomy - Thanks for asking. Busy couple of days. Mum didn't actually get picked up by the ambulance until 2am. She was admitted straight to the surgical assessment ward (rather than A&E). Doctors looked at her this morning and discharged her. Over cautious"out of hours" Dr, but mum has so many complications, so I understand why. After a bit of a melt down when she got home, she is doing fine now.

@violetsniff - she has had very bad reactions to anaesthetics recently - paranoia, hallucinations, confusion. But it also manifests with any hospital admission. I found on google something called 'hospital delirium' which is evidently very common and probably gets missed with older people, especially if ward staff dont know what they are normally like.

Good news on the progress @moomy!

Im back a work tomorrow - but working from home and going to make it a short day (especially given this weekend!!). Got a short working week next week, as I have a day of hospital appointments on Wednesday and I dont work Friday.

Wrap up well everyone and the wet and hope windy weather does cause too many problems xxxx

  • Hi Eddiboy,

That's rough, your poor Mum! I bet she didn't get a lot of rest, let alone sleep! That's enough to send folk over the edge! Really glad she's improved again after the meltdown, totally understandable! I know I only got around 4 hours sleep and ours was a quiet 4 bed room!

Take it easy on that return to work! Glad you can work from home, that was one thing I could never do. Really hope you don't go 'full on' too soon.

  • I looked at this morning’s forecast, not good, so decided to put on a big coat in case I got caught out with the rain, and went off for a walk, I beat the rain and managed 3 miles! Yay!

Hope everyone is doing ok, Eddiboy, don’t push yourself! Violetsniff, Seaspirit, and LeoLady and everyone, hope your day is as good as possible....
