It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Ah, that's really kind of you. It's quite a long way from where I live & I work full time at the moment so it would take some planning but it's half way between where I live & one of my old uni friends lives so I may turn up some time in the summer. The same uni friend said she went to a museum in London where they have one of the tables with boats on that you push around like the ones you see in the old black & white films. Excuse my ignorance - I don't know what they're called!

  • I know the sort of thing, probably known as tracking? Not really sure.

Tomorrow we are off to a wheelchair supplier as hubs’ power drive wheels (one of them) played up, there is only one importer but the company we will go to deals with them. Probably they will need to be sent off, it’s possibly a malfunctioning circuit in it somewhere. I hope it won’t take long, he hates being pushed, and self propelling is hard if there are any slopes. We still of course have the old wheels!

Then Friday we will be off on a special jaunt to Derby; of which more later! (Yes, mysterious!)

then Saturday I am meeting a school friend who is giving me a lift to Warwick to see the new base of our School, which moved from the centre of the town to a bigger site on the outskirts.

Then we will be looking after Henry-pup for 10 days! Walkies?!!

  • Took hubs’ wheels in today, a straightforward drive through Northampton, sat nav kept wanting to take us on different routes but we allowed her to direct us through town on the way home. Yes the wheels will need sending off, but not the batteries (of which he has 2 sets) so we will most likely have a bit of a bill (needless to say they are just out of warranty!). Apparently the importer knows of a few problems with the electronics so may not have too much of a problem mending them. I asked if it’s a known problem will it shortly happen to the other, they said they would most likely check both. Thank goodness he’s got the original wheels of the wheelchair! They are now on.

Derby? It’s the base of one of the motorhome dealers we saw on Sunday......yes, we may be thinking about one. We used to caravan a lot and loved it and have missed it, (but it got too much for hubs) we were thinking of buying daughters campervan from her when she upgrades, but saw a lovely small-ish motorhome at the show. So we are going with a long list of questions and to try it for size. Roll on Friday!

  • I emailed the lovely sugar smith lady who helped with supplies, advice and confidence building, she advises to leave it as it is as it’s such a clear photo. I was beginning the work to mould grey bits to sit on top but it’s not easy!

    The cake is beautiful,   Amazing.

  • I’m not sure still about 3-d layering the grey parts, have made some which look ok but the ‘rabbits ear’ assembly is really tricky. I scrunched up my first try.

i will try again tomorrow though and if that part works then I may add it all. If not the cake looks ok as it is, so I’m not worried, but would just like the challenge of getting a good representation!

  • Have to pop in quickly to say the cake looks fantastic! And I think you said at some point that you’ve never made a fruit cake before?? Great achievement, you should be proud and delighted!! Medal Tada HFxx

  • No, I’ve made cakes of course, but never a rich fruit cake to marzipan and ice!

round two of the ‘rabbits ears’ has been attempted, rather thinner, measured more carefully and left to harden to see what they are like later. I’m not bothered if it doesn’t work as everyone thinks the cake looks well already.
