It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Being prepared is a left over from work

The picnic is because at our unit they very good with biscuit sandwiches etc. But I'm diet controlled type 2 and also have IBD so try to keep to healthy diet .

As it happens super quick this morning and I was home by 12.30 . On,y reaction was the eye problems and massive headache as she finish the last injection . Painkillers and sitting for 15 mins sorted that out.

  • Thank you Margaret, I hope your headache doesn’t last or return.

lots of pruning and shaping done in the garden, ladder is away again now and the step stool too, no falls!

Ive just finished putting the clippings in the green recycle bin. We are lucky in that all garden and all food waste gets made into compost by the recycle folk here.

  • Back in the BC unit for a query about reconstruction, do I or don’t it? Also concern as if the extra tissue means rejection, what if then?

But I'm sure all will be ok

  • My surgeon suggested if I wanted, she could reduce the other side a little and it would ‘perk it up’ but she suggested I went to see the plastics surgeon anyway for his opinion about filling. There’s a waiting list of around three months, and she will see me again in six as she likes to get his opinion from the patient as well as a letter from him. Otherwise all is well and she’s happy with how it feels.

    phew! That’s a relief too!

  • Tomorrow a podiatry appointment (much easier than a hospital appointment!) and then a lunchtime concert to go to, cello and organ (son and organist!)

  • And the concert was wonderful, such a proud Mum! His cello is now over 30 years old and is now sounding so much louder; it always had a lovely sweet tone but wasn’t all that loud but he has demanded lots from it over those years and it’s responding well. But son had to rush off as he was teaching this afternoon, I still managed to give him a hug
