It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • have you tried a TENS machine? I have one as I was born with dislocated hip. I'm 49 and in the past 15 years it now manifests itself as lower back pain/sacroiliac joints and its great at blocking the nerves. Its not for everyone - can feel like pins and needles but it works for me. I can't really lie back in bath at the mo otherwise I'd end up soaking boob so electric blanket and tens machine is for me. sending hugs. pain is tiring xx

  • Hi , a long time ago I bought a cheap TENS but never found it that much help, not sure where it is now! But today I decided the stretches were too much so have concentrated on the heat pad and as much rest as possible and it’s easing a bit.

Your hip sounds like hubs’ were, he had shallow sockets, and used to fall over in the playground as a child with no warning, had his first hip replacement aged 47, the surgeon came back 3 times to tell him how badly worn the joint was! It changed his gait position so the second hip (which wasn’t so bad) didn’t need doing till he was over 55 (he took early retirement) and his back was bad by then too.

Just hope we all get a better night!

  • Awwww, bless you , that’s so sweet, it’s actually Monday! We vowed not to even try to get each other a card let alone present this time!

and yes, daughter arrives tonight after her last Glyndbourne gig (though she’s doing it again at the Proms on Tuesday) around 6 pm she reckons, son is planning to come too though he and his hubs are enjoying the best of the sun in Wales, they’ve been touring in their campervan. daughters partner won’t be here so that means Stanley-pup will be the only dog rather than top dog!

So far today is ok, hubs managed to sort himself out in the night when he became damp, bless him; I was aware but he kept it all quiet and low key and I didn’t need to get up!

  • Daughter arrived, about an hour ago, after her busy week coaching at a brass school in the Purcell School, we’ve both done lateral flow tests and are negative, she’s been fed and is attacking the biscuit tin!

  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

It's funny how quickly we accept things like doing lateral flow tests.  We've 4 boxes on the hall table (next top thr bowl of clean fabric Gap gave masks in lots of colours) and could do them in our sleep now! My youngest (covid,  long covid and double vaxxed I'm July) does them before seeing friends, and was off to an 18th birthday cocktail bar party in Camden,  but has a cold. The first attempt was too snooty despite blowing her nose before and half way through as only bubbles came out the tube! The second attempt sat in a blob, but filtered through in the end.

Interestingly her friend was DJing at a club on Wednesday,  and they get everyone to do a lateral flow test,  upload it and take a picture next to their passport,  as they rightly claim that lots of double vaxxed people are getting covid.

  • I love that solution to helping the kids get together safely, I’d have absolutely hated to have this happen when I was in my teens and 20s and probably 30s!! I really feel for them but a simple LFT before socialising has got to help x
