It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Great re walk, great re free fluids (bet he can’t wait for a proper cup of tea or coffee), great re Covid jab. But how ridiculous that you have had to chase that!! Not so good re slow biopsy results and no chance of private consultation but I know you won’t have them sitting around. Sorry you’ve still got various aches, pains and bruises - keep yourself safe from any more.... love and hugs, HFxx

  • I suspect the Covid jab will be a ‘NO’ but at least I’ve tried!

only one delivery to watch for now, my Sainsbury order. Then lunch and a rest and then my arm dressing later on. Phew! What an exhausting morning! I started my phone calls just before 8....!

  • That's a very busy productive  morning   if GP do not wish to give you Vaccine ask if District nurse or equivalent Health worker can deliver . After all it certainly wasn't a GP or nurse that administered my vac .

Please remember to rest so your aches and pains can heal

  • You are amazing , getting all that done in such a short time. So very frustrating about the Covid jab and the Oxford referral. I didn’t know the govt had blocked private opinions before NHS care. There is no joined up thinking is there. Sending love and hugs xx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Thanks everyone! I’m just doing my best, but yes  I think the Govt felt too many of us were doing that to short cut the system. I certainly had my wrist surgery privately but rehab on NHS, but that was a good few years ago now. And we dropped out of BUPA as the premiums were simply silly!

I am now resting in front of trashy tv and will drive rather than walk to my appointment later!

one of our good friends who was a workmate FaceTimed him earlier and said how amazed at how good he looked, hopefully lifted his spirits a bit too.

  • Hubs said tomato soup was awful, in fact any soup he’s tried in there is pretty dreadful. That’s really sad.....

but he had a longer walk than he’s done for ages, really surprised himself with his speed too! I think he is well topped up with blood and they have probably halted a lot of blood loss in the op, so he has more flooding through his system to give him energy! I’m soooooo pleased, and told him he can sleep the sleep of a distance Walker tonight!

His Orthopaedic consultant could see him (about the ongoing spinal arthritis which hampers his mobility) in clinic tomorrow, said his secretary, I suggested she phone the ward in the morning to see if that’s possible, as that would be the next hurdle of an out patient appointment we need to overcome.....I thought it might be an idea he was seen while there ‘ in captivity’ so to speak!

  • Shame about soup but he's obviously getting stronger walking .  Will they allow you to send a flask of soup xx

  • OR perhaps send some in cold to be reheated in a microwave ? They must have access to one on the ward ,I would have thought . Hope you manage to work something out Sending hugs  Kwissy

  • I’ve asked about them heating up soup, they are not allowed to for patients !!!!!!!!! But I can heat and send in a flask? Where’s the logic in that?
I’ve still got to get the decent soup flask back from there.....but at least it’s now empty and washed out he says.
todays news, last night he asked for a commode as he knew he needed to go but they were so long it was too late, sadly. They are still draining the N-G tube 4 hourly but if it’s below a certain amount he will be allowed to eat and presumably get the N-G tube removed! And he’s had 2 long walks, one last evening just before we had a Group FaceTime and an even longer one with physio this morning! He said he slept well but was still feeling tired. (I sleep deeper and am more tired after an acute phase of an illness so he might be similar)

it seems he might have taken 2 steps forward now!
