It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Actually yes a bit early for the drains.  When I had my first mastectomy mine were in for at least a week.  My dilemma today is that someone has sent me some lovely flowers but there is no message in the from card.  They must be for my op on Monday  Will try and ring the florist to see if I can find out who. Have also put a message on Facebook to see if I can track them down.  Making me anxious as I hate not to thank people. Hope you get the advice you need

  • How lovely! That’s so thoughtful Eddiboy! Hope you can find out to be able to thank whoever it was!

I got a surprise today, got seen by the boss as my results were in and discussed by the MDT.

Invasive grade 2 with DCIS intermediate and high grade. Their main concern was the skin covering it, there’s a patch which is 0.97mm from clear, obviously they like 1cm clear margin but that was as close as they felt possible, they shaved as much as possible. However, the Letrozole will help here as it’s all ER 8/8

But no spread otherwise, no nodal involvement so I will ‘just’ be going onto Letrozole and be seen in 6 months apart from the BCN’s.

One drain is now out, the other probably Tuesday.

    Phew!

  • Been busy reading up the Letrozole thread....

Also managed to trap and separate my drain!!!! Popped back in to the BCU to get it sorted, I’m by no means the only one, she said (but I am Mrs Clumsy!)

On the plus side, walked up to our local little Co-op for some milk and cheese as we are a bit low in both, so a walk, yay! (Shattered now, a looooong sit down!) but providing Letrozole side effects allow, I will be gradually extending walks and then can dispense with the lovely green socks!

  • Confession time, just had a huge meltdown of relief, mega hubs hugs have been needed plus a lot of tissues!

He said he’d been worried that I’d been too professional about it all, and is glad I’ve cried!

  • Oh my @moomy what a stressful day you have had with results and drain complications, on top of exhaustion and general angst. Blimey this is a such a physical and emotional roller coaster. You've been strong for so long, a good weep is in order  Have a lovely Friday evening and another glass of red xxx

  • Thank you, bless you!

I guess I’ve got away relatively lightly with BC but I guess I should also count the many years as a carer for daughter being partly responsible for today’s meltdown too, and will be asking for help for all the last 14 years have thrown at me. I know they were going to refer me, will ask where that’s got to on Tuesday.

Big hugs to all you lovely ladies xxx
