Just thinking ladies, as we are all going through much the same journey that we should have a thread on here for crafts. I am sure there are lots of you knitting, crocheting, sewing etc to keep the dreaded side effects at bay and help us cope day to day.

I personally knit and have posted on here some of my knitting. Would be nice to see/hear what other people do. We could share pictures, hints and tips as well

So I will start with a couple of things I have done in the last few days.

This is my slouch hat that I finished on Friday night. Will be wearing it for the first time today!!

This was on the needles saturday night ......

And finished saturday night.    A little headband/earwarmer for my granddaughter.

I am now off to have my PICC line inserted ready for 2nd round of chemo tomorrow (!!!!!!):)

Hope to see lots of pics when I come back!!

Have a good day everyone  xx

I'm sure people would want to buy them - they look great! And anything that takes the mind off you know what for a few minutes or hours is a good thing! You're still at the shock stage - hopefully the putting it to the back of your mind stage will come easier as you ride the roller coaster, although that obviously varies with the individual. If you do have difficulty with the emotional side of the big C, please take advantage of any counselling setvices that are available - there are lots of people who find it very helpful, and it's no sign of weakness!

    Carry on crafting!!

(She says, off to knit a wizard's cape in black in poor light on small needles with only one working eye... )

Thanks . Good advice. I fret a lot so have already set myself up with a counsellor through Maggie's and have my first appt on Thursday. Hope I like her.

Now I like a crafting challenge - but that one you just described is quite something! Good luck.

  • Dear ....I just LOVE your Valentines boxes!?!?

I also love picking through Charity shops and using some of the things that I find there!(also donate too, obvs!)

People who give things to Charity by that kind bride don’t realise how they can be re-loved.

I have found lots of lovely things, from toys which I recycle to lacey and beaded items which I treasure.

I recently bought an ethnic rug from a well-known one in the Sale and customised it to go with my decor.Xx

also, this nice pink silk cushion hand sewn at the edges xx

  • Oh I love charity shops too (or op shops as they're called here). My collecting gene is for mid century glass like Orrefors, Kosta Boda and so on. All the stuff I couldn't afford to buy new when it was fashionable. I also pick up any yarn they have for a friend who weaves scarves for the homeless and also gives some to local oncology groups. It's amazing how much yarn you can find for virtually no cost. I of course have expensive tastes so tend to buy what I want.

And I love your handwarmers. Any chance you might share the pattern? It would be great to make some for donating to the local chemo wards. I also belong to a group which, amongst many other things, makes up care packs for people newly diagnosed with BC. They'd be great in that.

  • I spent a lovely hour at the weekend, sorting out all my embroidery threads and winding them onto clothes pegs (an idea seen somewhere) and then putting them into this gorgeous Xmas tin (preferred the tin to the shortbread in it). A friend has started teaching me to do patchwork. Finished my first homework exercise yesterday. Lovely to be back crafting again.

that's looking really warm and cozy.

I've not actually finished anything yet (!) in spite of finishing my 6th week in isolation! My cross stitches are two BIG pieces, my knitting pattern has disappeared somewhere (I blame the tidy up I did in the lounge!) and it took me 3 goes to actually make one mask! (For me I hasten to add!)

The first mask I tried was one of those pleated ones - almost covered my entire face chin to top of head - I could have cut eye holes and used it to rob banks (if I w as allowed out!) So I tried a cup mask - better but the top of it covered half my glasses so I wouldn't be able to see where I was going! So I fiddled with that one, made a couple of changes to the pattern and the third one fits me better. Still comes up quite high and I won't be able to read using the reading part of my varifocals but as I'm in for another 6 weeks I have the chance to try again - if I feel the urge!

Garden's beginning to look not quite so much like a jungle, but I can't do much as my hip/knee seize up after about 30 mins so then I have to sit and rest with a cuppa! Oh the joys of getting old.

  • That looks lovely . Love the idea of making a mask or three ... I need to have a look around for something to practise on. I’ve not been on here for a while and I still have a small pile of cross stitch, crocheting to get on with... but have I? .... no. I’ve now watched Kirstie Allsop and now fancy trying some DIY weaving ... never thought of making a loom out of cardboard. Cushion cover front might be a possibility. I intend to see what I’ve got that can be used for crafting and get myself a box sorted ... good intentions.
