Just thinking ladies, as we are all going through much the same journey that we should have a thread on here for crafts. I am sure there are lots of you knitting, crocheting, sewing etc to keep the dreaded side effects at bay and help us cope day to day.
I personally knit and have posted on here some of my knitting. Would be nice to see/hear what other people do. We could share pictures, hints and tips as well
So I will start with a couple of things I have done in the last few days.
This is my slouch hat that I finished on Friday night. Will be wearing it for the first time today!!
This was on the needles saturday night ......
And finished saturday night. A little headband/earwarmer for my granddaughter.
I am now off to have my PICC line inserted ready for 2nd round of chemo tomorrow (!!!!!!):)
Hope to see lots of pics when I come back!!
Have a good day everyone xx
Hi Houston
What hourly rate would you give them I wonder?
How lovely,Flossie25.....I love hearing about people’s memory of rag rugs....
when I was trying to sell mine at Macmillan Coffee morning, more people than I expected came up and said the same...having done “reminiscence”course at work years ago,it thrilled me.
@SnowysMum...I LOVE your little donkey which keeps falling over!
i wonder if you have a copy of the (free?)teddy bear pattern (pretty easy please,!)as I am soon going to be with a lady with dementia who will like to do it with me hopefully...
love Violetsnif xx
Managed to finish three projects this week after not being able to do much with the pain of the chest drain insertion.
The dinosaur and Unicorn are for the grandchildren of a lady I met in chemo, and the dachshund is a mini version of the dog owned by the daughter of an ex-work colleague.
I now have a giraffe and a pig fairy in a tutu on the needles!
Happy crafting everyone!
Bit late replying sorry!
Knitting's a funny thing. It's really easy, once you know what you're doing, but quite hard to get a start with it.
I look at lots of youtube vids to learn (or refresh myself on) different techniques and I find some quite helpful but not all! Trouble is most of them assume a level of knowledge that you probably don't have. The best I"ve found is a lady called Cheryl Brunette who is excellent at explaining clearly. She has a website, blog and plenty of videos. Just google.
Anyway, my suggestion to you would be to find someone, either a relative or friend or perhaps lessons run by your local craft shop, who can give you an hour or so to learn the basics. You'd get much more out of the youtube stuff then.
But do persist, it's a great hobby and very relaxing.
Some craft shops do workshops to teach the basics and different techniques. I've been to a couple on crochet, not that I've learned enough yet to crochet toys etc. I have a DVD on beginner's crochet as well - haven't watched it yet though.
I taught myself to knit via a book, and there are plenty of videos on the 'net to help!
Good luck
They are delightful, Weeblemum, you have inspired me to get on with something creative.
Hi weebkemum I think your knits are fantastic so artistic am afraid am not really good at crafts well done x
