Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Loving all the water sounds! It looks like spring in yours  though I’m sure it didn’t feel like it. And I’d love to be near the sea , looks beautiful. Was brought up in St Andrews so spent many happy hours on the beaches there. Escaped to the coast briefly in august and again in September (Norfolk and Suffolk), can’t wait to get back once things have eased enough.
you were ahead of me this morning, I did a zoom workout at 9.30 for an hour. Dog walk soonish.
good to see you here and that’s a great start, cutting out the sweets! I don’t miss them now but was never a ‘one toffee’ kind of person, had to be the whole packet, same with a bar of chocolate. Amazing how the craving really does go, now I’m happy with a couple of squares of dark chocolate which I believe is beneficial anyway? Hope so! Have a good day all, HFxx

Just been for my pre op assessment which I was dreading. I'm fat, got asthma and apparently high blood pressure too now - but on a positive note.... I've lost 2 kilo's since the 4th!

Have done 40 minutes power walking this morning, just having a rest then going to do some housework and another power walk - got to get that blood pressure down for the 26th!

  • Well done everyone who has lost some unneeded weight...a lovely feeling I am sure!(I gave up wine 2 years ago and lost about 3/4 stone over the time since.)

Now my sister has a go about my eating choc or ice cream but (maybe I shouldn’t say this)but It is nice to have a little reward or treat.Life is pretty grim sometimes. But I must make my reward or treat non-fattening I am sure I will......

Also ...so lovely to hear from you again! And a GOLD STAR for tackling your blood sugar issues. You Go Girl...you can do it !!!Muscle tone1Muscle tone1Muscle tone1Muscle tone1xxx

  • Well done re the weight loss ! Great start, and in such a short time. I’m just about to take the dog out in this never ending rain. Thibk it might be a very short walk, will see how we both feel by the end of the road! And  we all need a wee treat. I have ditched the treats I know I can’t control but still have dark chocolate most days and the occasional vegan ice cream. And I make scones once a week or so. Wholemeal flour and only sultanas for sweetness, can’t see much harm in them! Will definitely need something nice after what is going to be a very wet walk... HFxx

  • Congratulations on your weight loss. Have you had high  blood pressure readings before? The reason I ask is that given all the worry you have at the moment this may be raising your blood pressure. Also I have
"white coat syndrome" ,when I take my blood pressure at home it is way down from any " official readings"and is now part of my medical records. I now monitor it at home and pre-op made daily recordings for the anaesthetist. Just a thought that you may be the same. Sending hugs and well done in your efforts to lose weight and hopefully bring down your blood pressure. xx

  • Congratulations on the weight loss, ! I too have lost some but it’s mostly worry over hubs who is in hospital right now (has been steadily poisoned by his blood pressure medication by the GP who didn’t check his many diabetic check blood results which showed poor kidney results, attributable to Losartan which he’s off now, and most likely Metformin too)

well I’ve done my half hour of exercise, jog/stomp on the spot plus stretches and push ups, then some yoga.
congratulations to all who get out and post pics.....I will post one of the wet garden from indoors!
