Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

I usually try and catch up on all the posts I've missed since my last visit, but I think I'm probably so far behind, that I will just post anyway to say hello. I hope you all keep well and avoid this nasty virus, especially being in one of the vulnerable groups.   The number of cases in this part of the country is low, so I shall carry on sensibly as normal.

  • Hi all, hope everyone is getting some fresh air while we’re still allowed to be out and about. Had a lovely marsh and heath walk today, even saw my first violets (I think) of this spring. Will try to post a picture for you

Love to all, keep safe, HFxxxx

  • Hi all,

I understand we will still be allowed out and about as long as we keep a distance from everyone else! Phew!

  • Hi ,lovely to hear from you ....hope you are doing ok.Lovely ducks,!!and yes my perspective changed post-cancer,too,and I can soend ages just taking in the beauty of something.

Yes ....am intending to still take my lovely walks but this time avoiding town a bit and going round to the countryside areas....won’t it be lovely?

...what pretty violets,I read a little rhyme today about violets too,it is an Irish ballad.

well,I watched the news late afternoon, got the salient very important points, and am trying not to watch the endless repeats of it,and have been on facebook,in between times.Anyway, just as Boris arrived on the telly tonight (which I had already seen),I had just put on an beautiful Italian voice of an Italian, singing “Nessun Dorma”from his balcony.I think he was in isolation ,which was the point...and I am not techy at all,and was trying to turn him down as it was very loud, but I couldnt!!so I afraid Boris got blasted by an Italian Crooner.I should think the whole of the block of flats heard him too!!anyway I got so entranced by his singing voice that I didnt care any more......Xxx

(well,I did care, obviousl, but you get me ,am just trying not to get overwhelmed by it all)xx

  • Things to change again at weekend

then we get the guidelines for the quarantine period . For elderly and vulnerable . I prefer reading the published report on line . Better than Boris lol

we still going to our view tomorrow

Interesting you should mention Italian tenors! For the last few days I have had Mario Lanza in my head singing 'Because of you...'!! I've tried singing along, but our voices don't quite match.!

Yesterday I had a phone call from a young woman I knew well a few years ago asking if there is anything she can do to help -  -which is  so very kind. She is going to Tesco for me today.

  • How lovely !

    and yes...you must sing along!xx

  • Hi all, love the idea of an Italian tenor drowning out Boris! Just the ticket I’d say! Managed Nordic walk yesterday which is happily still going on for now, we just keep our distance from each other. It’s not a huddling type of activity anyway. Also had unexpected company on my afternoon walk as a friend had the afternoon off. Good couple of hours round local country estate and on to the heaths. Need to get out soon, probably similar walk but on my own.

    Love to all, HFxx

  • I’ve been busy trying to think out the least busy walks around here, trouble is it’s a small town in the edge of a big one so footpaths (especially paved ones) get well populated with dog walkers.

  • Hi

is there a NT property nearby they are suspending entrance and car park fees so people can walk in grounds for excercise.

Houses etc will be shut . Might only be for couple of weeks but at least some green space
