Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Oh dear I hope they get better soon,!!not a nice time for you all.

today I went for a walk to do my little “job” of polishing the crucus on the font at Church. The way things are going not sure if we will be expected to have “virtual Services”soon, and so I wanted to give it one last polish.

After a week of reading all about COVID-19,I was well prepared for town,a lovely bracing walk through the beautiful parkland on my way there.I felt so much better!!Nothing like fresh air !,,,I watched a dog happily retrieving a ball, and the swans looking for bread...then I had to come back to normal and listen to the unfortunate activities we must undergo, which seem so claustraphobic, but obviously necessary.I am taking Boris’ advice and not peaking too early with the staying in,(unless I get it)as older people will get lonely if they curtail their activities too soon.Being careful...but exposing myself to lovely fresh air, before the inevitable Xx

China  is on the mend...so that is a lovely thing to think about xxx

isn’t this a beautiful magnolia? And the braches like little bits of lace xxHeart

came back to see older people and people with underlying health issues are being EVERSO careful already.Bit confused now...but I would like to add, most of us must be aware of underlying health issues even if we are not”old”..

  • Lovely photo,
yes we did indeed take Henry home and daughter looks rather haggard. She’s been prescribed Ciprofloxacin and asked for a sample, GP has 3 ideas about diagnosis so I hope things improve speedily!

  • Me too,!

our GP Surgery not opening soon and doing all calls by triage....I found when I popped in for some meds on my way home xx

  • Our GP surgery are doing similar, stopped all on line booking and asking for phone calls only to book appointments so yes, triage-by-phone seems the norm.

  • Hi all, beautiful magnolia , funnily enough I saw one just in flower today but no photo. And definitely good to get out in the fresh air. I've done a ridiculous amout of walking today, certainly a record since I worked out how to find my steps on my phone. Dropped car at garage for MOT (shocking bill but that's another story...) then walked solo to next town and back - nobody intersted in the walk at 8am! Lovely walk with lots of birdsong and not many people. Met friend there, had breakfast, then back. Into town and back, then another walk late afternoon round local country park and home again. 30,000 steps in total!!!

Hope all keeping safe but also managing to get out and about. HFxx

Hi all, what strange times we are in.
Had a nice walk in the sunshine on Thursday, working yesterday now it is raining again...

I hope we can all keep getting out and about in the coming weeks.

  • Have been prevented from walking over the past few weeks, waiting for my insoles to be made to help my heel spur pain. First walk back again yesterday and saw these little lovelies. Pre-cancer, I would have passed them by as I would have been rushing somewhere, but now, in my post-cancer world, I took a full 15minutes to watch and enjoy them !!
