Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • If you’re out walking in this, stay safe, everyone!

looks like it’s set in for a couple of days, too

Not had a chance to look at the thread this week at all, so just catching up with all your news and views, I’m exhausted!

Lovely to see the sunny spring pictures and I hope Dennis is not causing too much bother, I’ve just watched the lunchtime news and seen those awful floods in Wales.

Violetsniff you had an adventure, thank goodness for the lamp post!

Im staying with my mother in law for a couple of days, took the dog to the lark earlier for a walk. We used to walk to the park, round the park then back but he couldn’t do that now so I drove us there. Anyway look what we saw, it cheered me amidst the wind and rain.

  • Managed a dog walk before storm Dennis yesterday .

  • Hope everyone ok from wind, floods etc cxxx

  • Couldn’t go out walking yesterday as the wind was so strong so I stayed in and sorted out my embroidery thread, as one does, and put them all in a pretty Xmas tin. Can’t seem to upload the photo - sorry. Went for a lovely swim today - outdoor heated pool - absolute luxury. Back to walking tomorrow, weather permitting ! Was that a camelia out in flower that someone posted a couple of days ago ? Lovely !

  • Braved the wind this afternoon, a few spots of a shower too, 2.1 miles walked.

lovely to see signs of spring, a branch in tight but green bud, and I managed to get a photo of a squirrel, sadly a grey one but cute all the same.

  • Saw surgeon today and hes very happy that things have shrunk again 1/2 way through chemo!! So my walk today was from the surgery into next where I bought 2 new dresses then went for a coffee and cake to celebrate !!! Hope everyone having a good day xxx

  •  Your reaction to your good news sounds exactly the right one, to my mind !! New clothes and cake, Girlfriend !!

I walked yesterday with my great friend, Françoise who is recovering from a knee replacement and so we boost each other. We shaved 5’ off our usual time, so no wonder I was struggling. She was fitter than me yesterday. My aching feet and knees were screaming out at me !!

Today’s walk is with my sister in law. Hope my aches and pains will not hinder too much.

Tomorrow’s walk is to be a swim actually. The pleasure of being back in the water is immense ! And aches and pains go away in the water ! I am planning to buy a subscription card of 10 swims, just to boost myself. It feels quite decadent, swimming in a heated outdoor pool in winter - just need to keep my shoulders underwater. And an excellent workout for my arms.

  • Loving all the spring like pictures. Lots of activities on here. I was out walking last night. Plan to do some stretching/yoga today and get out and about later.

Can't seem to upload or take a picture on phone.... hey ho.

    Xx
