Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

Have walked 11km today - in parks and between parks as it felt too cold to go away from people but I feel much much better for it. Hope all on here have had a good day

  • That looks amazing where is it?

Do check with your BCN about swimming? Or ask the nurse on the expert section here.

My walking was all but 6km. Lots of little shopping jobs, so parked as far away as possible and walked up stairs and escalators.

    So no pics

Hi, I was at Roundhay Park in Leeds and a stately home just outside it - I didn't get the sun that the forecast promised but still have that nice tired feeling now I'm home surrounded by 2 snoring dogs!

Shopping walking is a nice kind of walking too! I see the consultant and BC nurse tomorrow and I will ask then. And if they want my axillary nodes out which I am expecting them to say, at least I know all the walks without stiles now!

Happy new year of walking everyone!

I haven't posted many walks so far because I don't remember to take any photos - but will make more of an effort in January.  Rest assured I have been walking!

I normally do one short and one long dog walk a day, plus a 30 min fast walk without the dogs.   The walking does make a big difference to my energy levels, mood and health.

Today I walked up 6 floors of stairs at the hospital because the one working lift was being so slow.  Had to stop half way - I am totally out of practice!  But there was a lovely view from the Chemo unit while I was having my Herceptin and Zolendronic acid Slight smile

    love

  • Great photos, peeps!

I’ve slipped today; but have walked to the shop for supplies!

I have done 2-3 miles every other day this week, think I’m allowed a day of comparative rest?!

  • Love all the photos. Very fond of Leeds - daughter went to Uni there so have got to know it over the years, but she graduated last summer so am missing all the half term visits!

Had a lovely new year's day walk:

ok that's the best I can do, don't know why it's done that!

Since then have only walked to and from car park to cancer centre and to and from the cafe at hospital as going for radiotherapy. Don't feel like much once home from 3 hour plus round trip! But good walks planned for the weekend.

    Happy walking all! NNxx

  • Well, hello there!

    - sorry it's taken me so long to reply. My walking holiday was good for me physically and emotionally and I had a lovely time with a great group of people. However, I've been sleeping a huge amount since I got back so I think I didn't realise how tired it made me. I'm hoping it's not the fatigue back again - think I'm just tired, but finding it hard to be motivated to get out again as I keep getting up so late. Back to work on Monday so I'll know for sure then - lol!

So what will 2019 hold? I hope it's full of great things for everyone.

I am thinking of signing up to go with my dragon boat team to Venice in June for a long paddle through the canals, and some other "active" holidays - so I am relying on you all for the motivation to reach the fitness levels I need!

All the walking you've all been doing looks and sounds amazing - it inspires me to visit more parts of the country and plan more walking!

Wishing an amazing 2019 for you all!

  • Hi Ronstar,

if it’s any comfort, I tend to sleep lots in the short days of winter? A good 8-9 hours at times.....

todays swift walk was the other way round than usual and got a good view of the old station, will try and get it on here.....
