Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Yes, it’s fascinating work, and I’m currently the only lady Bombe operator regularly there, all the others are gents!

We hope sometime later this year to have a challenge from Poland, using one of their Enigmas. That WILL be  interesting! We’ve done 17 challenges so far, for real, 16 from GCHQ using their Enigma machine, and one from Paderborn in German, using Morse traffic as it was done in the 1940’s.....we’ve never taken longer than 5 hours to get the settings, and decode  the message. When you understand that the number of settings in a 3 rotor Enigma with a plug board is just under 159 million, million, million, then that’s not too bad!

    Ha, I could go on.....!!!!

  • Wow, this is so interesting.  5 hours is amazing, when you think of how many million you said.

I can't help but ask how you got involved with this? How did you know you could do it?

I've just told my husband about this, and he said, (owww he's so witty), but can you do the Rubik's Cube and are you any good at Sudoku. I said I'd ask :)

Final words, Massive Congratulations on being the 'only' lady Bombe operator "Massive Well Done".

I think I'm heading off to bed, I only nipped on and have been here for hours zzZZZzz

Ps. Please do let us know more, its all very interesting.

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Well, this is nowhere near as interesting as 's Bombe information, but I have been trying to post it on various devices since this afternoon so.....

A gentle walk around the community greenhouses at the park today. So much to see - figs, walnuts, greengages, quince, raspberries, artichokes, onions, brassicas - and these two keeping an eye on things

Morning all, what a lot has been going on over the weekend, good stuff!

i had a quiet one, here is a pic from Saturdays walk. Today I am off on a jolly with some work chums. I am VERY EXCITED!! I will post a pic later you will know where I am!

    Have fun

  • Glorious swim this morning. Everyone was on the sun lingers and I had the pool almost to myself, just as I like it. Unfortunately the padlock on my locker failed to open and I was stranded, dripping wet with just a towel draped round me! The staff were very good and rescued me with a pair of bolt cutters very quickly. Must confess I got a bit panicky, but no meltdown ! Xxxxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  •  your daughter sounds so delightful

    Hope your cold is improving

Fingers crossed for the 3 cygnets

    xx

  • Well I’ve waved OH off to see family and apart from a wander around supermarket I’ve done little walking as yet... spent lots of time tracking his flight tho ....but ... as the weather is so good I’m having a bit of a walk after the footie. I’m hoping I can get up really early tomorrow and get myself along to the seaside for a nice stroll. Really need to do some work on the jungle / garden.

Hope you’ve all enjoyed such lovely weather xx

  • Finding the heat a bit too much, not a lot of walking at all....

Wish we were still by the sea, a bit of sea breeze would be very welcome!
