Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • I’ve always loved the idea of travelling around Europe by train.  I’ve seen some spectacular routes and overnight sleeper trains too.  I’m looking forward to trying it.  Your trip sounds fab.

  • Hubs and I did a couple of Great Rail journeys in Europe quite a while back but although not cheap, you do get a courier with you and they are generally first class journeys or similar. The only faff is the constant packing and unpacking against a cruise where you only need to do that once.

I’ve been walking quite a lot recently as I’ve had Henry-dog to stay.

  • I’d originally wanted to do the sleeper from Brussels to Berlin  but by the time we booked, the only options were in a 6 person couchette (definitely not willing to share with strangers these days); book the whole couchette for the 2 of us (too expensive); or overnight seating coach (did this lots going to and from Scotland over the years but not any more!). So top tip, book early!! I’m really interested in the Hamburg to Stockholm sleeper some day. Haven’t looked at Great Rail journeys  , thanks for the suggestion.
    Last photos from Berlin….

Had some lovely weather but colder than the 26 degrees back home - not that I was complaining, I love blue sky but not high temperatures! Anastrozole has me too hot most of the time already! Love to all, HFxx

  • Hi all, did my favourite long walk on Monday, to another town and back, through fields, woods and country estate. Mostly following a river. Such a lovely walk, we saw a heron fly past and 2 little egrets. So beautiful. We past a couple of people at the start but had the countryside to ourselves for the rest of the walk. Early lunch at a cafe before the return walk. 9 miles in all! Weather was perfect, cold but sunny. Love to all, HFxx

  • Birthday treat yesterday at the Ivy in Brighton. 1 yr on since I realised that something was going on with the breast. Good to be on this side now although I am a bit paranoid.

  • Whose birthday? Happy Birthday.

OH was 76 yesterday and great niece 15. 18th was obviously a good day.....or shall we say January is probably a cold month for early nights!

Your restaurant looks lovely. Long walk today perhaps?

OH had coffee with the ' men' then we had a family meal inside. Just our local brasserie but they spoilt OH with free Cognac and bottle of red to take home. Very kind as I am still trying to shake off this horrible cough bug that is griping everyone!

  • MY OH is 74, I had another meal yesterday and more cake. Need a break from eating today. It was lovely though.
