Walking back to Happiness

Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Hi all

I am very happy today - managed 19 minutes and 17 seconds today with a 30 second sprint to finish - was aiming for 20 minutes so those 17 seconds are very important!!! :) I used to be able to do a circuit of the park in 20 minutes and I got about 3 quarters of the way round today so really happy with that! Now sitting resting in the walled garden to get some sunshine before heading home! Popped by the swans at a shift change - here is dad doing his bit -

    Have a lovely day everyone!

Well done yes it’s Canterbury. Dreamthief I liked your clue! I would have liked to post a pic of the cathedral but you can’t get anywhere near it unless you pay £12.50 so we gave it a miss this time.

Anyways plenty of other nice things to see and do. It was a tonic!

  • well done!! It makes such a difference to feel like things are coming together again doesn't it?

I love swans - they are so regal.

Today I went and shot a round at the club, first outdoor round with the barebow. I did a Long Metric (Ladies) which is 3 dozen at each of 70m and 60m. I was pretty happy with my score, for a first attempt. When I got home I looked at the County record for interest.............................................

And discovered I'd broken it!! No stopping me now!!

  • wow congratulations  on breaking a county record.  And a Long Metric, that sounds mighty impressive.

And well done on your run  - swan watch is very exciting !

I managed a short walk around my local reservoir but had to give up when it started to rain. I am using the active 10 app and managed to do 30 mins brisk, so happy enough with that. xxx

  • Wow - very impressive!! At first glance, I thought people were driving their arrows to the target - hahaha.

It does feel good to be getting back to something close to my previous self.

    - sorry you got rained off - 30 minutes brisk walk is good - you are hitting the government target - they'll be pleased lol - the swans are my new obsession - I try to visit them every day but am trying not to bore everyone with them :)

  • Wow, Toxophilite, I am super impressed! Maybe you should apply to enter the county team?

Eddiboy, that's really good! (Can you walk for me too?!?!?)

I will be walking on Tuesday, a mile each way into town and back, then again on Wednesday, and half a mile and back on Friday.

I feel exhausted still after this afternoon's nap! But a glass of wine has to be a bit reviving?

    Hugs xxx
