Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • I think it comes back to everything in balance again . We need to get around 3 x 30min cardio exercise a week minimum - so your brisk pace is achieving that.

We also need to move more. That minimum is not so useful if the rest of the time is totally sedentary. Conversely, 10 000 (or more) steps at a stroll is not helpful either. Well, being outdoors and moving is good for the mind and soul, so it has some benefit!!

So, my average day of 7000 or so steps and 20+ floors keeps me moving, but unless I actually run up all those stairs in one hit it has no cardio benefit.

    Ok, I'll stop rambling now.

Todays walk of 2 miles in the hail and rain! Cold and not good at the start but I was warm at the end except my fingers!!!There was a Kingfisher on the log .... really there was but he/she flew off !

  • Good work everyone who made it out today. I had a stroll through the woods with my sister and baby niece.....she couldn't see her feet so was quite funny watching her not fall over as she was going slower than me :-)

  • Now here's a thought for this thread.... should I be updating my post that I posted 'before' I went out or should we do new ones.  For now I am doing a new one.....

You'll never believe me when I tell you this, its so true though and I have to copy and paste this to the Fatigue thread.

So, I finally dragged myself off the settee, got changed and set off - outside the house I set my phone alarm for 10 minutes!!! - I thought I'd do 10 minutes 'there' and 10 minutes 'back' = 20 minutes (which would be 5 minutes longer than Monday).

Off I go, brrrr it is chilly, lets walk a little faster, lets slow down - hmm, I seem to be further than Monday, lets walk a little more - (brain fog now, what time would my alarm be going off - have I missed it in my pocket).  Okay, lets turn round, walking away .... "ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling - okay its not the sound of my alarm but my alarm is going off.  Right, I'm setting it again for another 10 minutes and lets see where I'll be when it goes off.  Walking, walking, through the back gate, into the house, changing out of trousers that I have dedicated to walking (they are grey, I only ever where black - so most won't recognise me from afar) - folding said trousers, ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling - its the alarm.

Now what I do have to say is, I truthfully, can't believe how much I did in '20 minutes!!!!!! 20 minutes!!! my perception of time whilst I'm in the house is so different.  Now then, since coming back in the house I have washed up (some from last night - no energy or inclination). wrote on a few threads (this is time consuming for me, due to bad spelling and slow computer).  Made a cup of tea and just about to feed the cats.  This is why I need to post on the Fatigue thread - it has given me 'some energy - not sure how much or for how long - but I do feel a little brighter for the fresh air and movement :))

Sorry to waffle - this should be my name Waffle haha xxx

Right so a good few hours later I have finally got online and a line haha and eventually got my photo to insert.

Energy is still better than it normally would be - I'm just sitting with  watching Eastenders :o (joke) xxxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Round the park with Paddy a neighbours dog. I take him when Dave (his Dad) is at work.

Hi three years ago I was unwell with breast cancer and found walking my grace. At times walking at the end of my driveway was all I could do. Now 3 years later I walk/run jog a 5 k parkrun and have now done 26 park runs.  And each week I don’t find it easy at the 5k but think at least I am up and not in bed !  So just keep walking ....
