After having a positive breast biopsy result my consultant still wasn't happy so, I had further biopsies taken which came back clear. My consultant then said I'd need a lymph node dissection and open breast biopsy which I had done 6th Oct (16 days ago). I get my results this wed the 25th Oct.Â
I have now noticed that the armpit that had the nodes removed now smells extremely bad of sweat which is very unusual for me and my good armpit smells normal.
Hi
yes to the fact I hav this problem too. I had my op in May and immediately had a smelly armpit surgery side. It went after a couple of weeks. But it now has returned and I have just stepped out of the bath 5 mins ago and it’s there just on one side.
any advice would be appreciated x
If you have had lymph nodes removed then this can occur. If you have an appointment in the next six weeks then do mention it, but otherwise give your BCNs a call and just mention it
I do find that side smells slightly more than the other one but not much
For anyone still struggling with this one rest assured it will go. Had my ANC on 12th June and have had a really bad smell in that armpit until the last few days when it's just faded away....yippee!
Hi Jammer, I noticed your post was 5 months ago. Did it get any better? I have had sentinel node removal and right side mastectomy, i have noticed that that I have a bad smell on both sides, its been 3 months since the op. I am shaving and wonder if I should stop? anyone else wondered this?
I had a lumpectomy 5 years ago with sentinel node removal and then, after a recurrence 2 years ago, I had a second lumpectomy in the other breast with the same number of nodes removed. Interestingly, the armpit from the side of the first surgery has a terrible odor while the other remained normal! Also FYI, the hair never grew back on either side.
I've used hand sanitizer and antiperspirant (I usually use deodorant) on the armpit with the odor to no avail...I am going to try the crystal suggested on another site.
Hi there. I had Lumpectomy with 4 SNs removed on 12th Jan 22. Noticed yesterday and today really stale BO smell. I have never had this. Just wondered what the crystals are that you referred to?
Hi.
I had a lumpectomy and Sentinel Nodes removed in Aug 21 and further op in Sep 21 to remove more breast tissue (to clear margins) and Axillary Node Clearance. I too had a very strange odour from surgery armpit.
The other armpit then started to smell when I started chemo. After trying numerous products, the only deodorant which seems to work for me is Pitrok Crystal Deodorant Stick. I would definitely recommend!
Hope this helps x x
Hi Haversham
Thanks for the info. I will look this up. The odour is so strange....its on the opposite side to my surgery ??!!
Hi Patsysmash
Very strange it's on the opposite side - but there again, nothing surprises me at the moment!!
Like I mentioned before, mine is both sides now, but definitely not as bad as a few months ago!
And yes, a really strange horrible smell! Really difficult to describe the smell - certainly not a normal BO type of smell! x x
