  • I have just completed a 3 day seminar with Make 2nds Count for secondary breast cancer.  It was really interesting and gave me lots of information to take away and questions to ask my oncologist.    I suffer with bad neuropathy in my feet.  One of the doctors said pregabalin (I think how you spell it) is not very effective for chemo related neuropathy.  Apparently it was tested on diabetic patients.  He did mention another drug but I can't remember what it was called.  He also said rubbing menthol cream on your feet at night helps.  I am going to do a seminar in April with Moonshot as I have lobular cancer.

  •   I take gabapentine for my neuropathy but I have to take 1000mg per day. Then I take B12 every 10 days....as a liquid....and B6 and zinc every day. All these things have helped but it's not perfect as my feet can still burn underneath whilst feeling like ice blocks at the same time. I do get less pain though when I walk and in my calves. He also prescribed paracetamol to take if I feel my legs are painful. I try not to take them as codeine makes me nauseous and is addictive but sometimes I have to give in.

By coincidence I saw the neurologist today. I see him every six months plus extensive blood tests which he studies carefully before tweaking drug quantities. I have the electronic tests on the 25th. Usually he does these every year.

I hope you can find a combination to suit your neuropathy. I think it's an individual response.

    Take care. Love Karen

  • I am wide awake having slept from 8pm. Seems to be the current pattern. So exhausted from work that I sleep from 8 until anywhere between 11 and 2. Then I am wide awake for several hours before falling back to sleep. Then the alarm goes off at 5.30am for work. Am I being ungrateful? I sometimes wonder if going through what we have shouldn't I be able yo enjoy being here rather than working myself into the ground? Awake at night is when all the worries try to take hold. I always thought if something like this would happen to me I would for all the things I always wanted to do like travel to places on my bucket list. But the reality is I have neither the time nor the money!

  • Morning Mag

That is exactly my sleep pattern. Last night I didn't even get to the end of Star Trek. Now here I am awake wondering how I'm going to make aprons for teddies as requested by my granddaughter. Even that's trying to distract myself from the little niggles about my surgery. Why do I have to take an entire box of tablets with me when I will need one of each at the most? They have got the list of medication I take and dosage on their computer! Hopefully along with my blood type now. I've been on chemo for five months, having bloods done weekly and nobody ever thought we need to get her blood group while we are doing this!

I'm not working this time round. I retired after the last lot which means I can catch up on sleep later if I have to. As for the bucket list, I was losing weight so I would be comfortable in an aircraft seat which helped me spot the lump.fingers crossed we get to France this year. Canada might have to wait.

Now I'm going to read a chapter of my book, spray my pillow with lavender and keep my fingers crossed that this isn't one of those nights in awake till five.
