Totally with you, Flossie25, strikes won’t get the amount that’s needed, and I was working as an OT in the early 1970’s when a consultant actually said ‘we are seeing the golden age of the NHS, from now it will never be as good’ How right he was! It’s not been funded properly since then. He also said that the NHS needed to recruit 50% of all school leavers from then on, and of course that didn’t happen!

Moomy
I totally agree ,moomy….I remember when Boris was asked about nurses who retired at 60 but the age had changed to 66 for their pension. He said “I can’t afford it.”
on comes COVID ,and suddenly he found, millions. Now,I totally agree with this, but …well…you can imagine how I felt as I got my Breast cancer at 59/60 and had to take early retirement.I survived on my own (paid for by me while working),NHS pension ,and very meagre savings for 6 years, until I got my State Pension.
and yes-I have been missing Snowys Mum too x

I started my training in ‘73 moomy so perhaps I’m a decade out regarding staffing levels and it was in the 70’s that discussions were taking place. There is a lot of waste in the NHS and PFI didn’t do it any favours. Trusts are still paying off their mortgage. I remember the time when managers were made redundant, got paid off and reappeared doing the same job using a different title. Probably still goes on.
