  • Hi

Did you register on gov.uk as on the high risk list . When you do this you should say " yes " to needing help .

If you say you've got help they close your case . If you then decide you need help you can go back on After going back on and saying need help I've now received two free food parcels ( passed these on ) more important for me supermarkets then emailed .

I now have a three weekly slot with Asda up til October . Hope they have offered you a recurring slot .

I received call from council yesterday offering help and a food parcel ( said I didn't need ) and now have telephone no and a identifying number if I need help with anything .

So things are been put in place hopefully will get to you soon .

look what I found ...so cute

  • Hi Northerner,

I had the letter telling me to stay in for 12 weeks, due to ongoing treatment. At the time, I had a couple of deliveries lined up and so I clicked no, that I didn’t need help with food deliveries.

I then struggled to book any and so I went onto the site and couldn’t find how to amend my previous form, so I went through the process again and clicked yes. That was a couple of weeks ago and I haven’t had any food or help from the supermarkets. Thankfully, I have managed to book some Ocado slots as I used to have a couple of deliveries per week (husband and two rapidly growing teenagers). I don’t have any guarantees of future deliveries though.

I think I must have mucked it up. Did you fill in the entire form again or find a way to edit yours?

    Many thanks,

    Sarah x

  • I'm in Wales and my hubby had shielding letters. He has priority with a Tesco and Sainsbury's allegedly but we can't get slot.  Today we had easily from Iceland but I never shop there and my freezer is full !!

Also had letter from council offering support and free food parcel !

  • Hi all,

I phoned a freephone Sainsburys number and went through their checklist stuff (all automated) and after 2 weeks I found out I was registered with them as an over 70. Their slots have gradually got easier to get, I’ve had Waitrose, Sainsbury, Asda and Tesco over the weeks but am back to Sainsburys as things seem easier to book over the last week, got one for next Tuesday. I’m finding it hard to plan that far ahead but coping!

  • Hi

I filled whole form in again on the Friday I received  food box following Wednesday  then a clutch of supermarket emails . Then second box today . Phone call from council yesterday to confirm details on form and offer of any help and food box from council . The timing might be coincidence and they may be doing area by area . I'm in NE.

Along the way I've picked up the following info .

Iceland are the best for availability but you do have to have patience. They put slots on throughout the day but when you get one it can be for same or next day . So have your trolley already done they have a good selection of chill and deli food also good veg and grocery choice .

morrisons have a phone number you then choose 27 items from 44 to be delivered next day I think .

There online slots tend to be three weeks hence I just grabbed two 18th  and the 30th and filled trolley to keep slot then adjusted order just before delivery will do the same with 30th .

Then I start the Asda three weekly slot I got as priority . I also managed to find a small local fruit & Veg shop doing deliveries

owner who delivered is doing roaring trade and on realising we vulnerable has said when we order if we need bread ,milk or eggs etc let them know they get it in village and deliver with fruit .so it can be worth looking local .

Basically until you get sorted I think the best thing could be to book one with a major supermarket even if it three weeks then you can amend or cancel  just before delivery .

In the meantime try Iceland for a quicker shop

Hope you can get sorted soon

    Hi,

I'm still on steroids because I keep having flare-ups of colitis caused by the immunotherapy I had last year. (I wrote aromatherapy! Pretty sure that wasn't it. But wouldn't it be nice if that was a cancer treatment?)

Every time it happens, the docs ramp up my steroid dose again, and when it settles a bit I have to start weaning myself off them. Eventually, I have some blood tests to determine whether my body can make the naturally occurring amount of steroids by itself. It can't. That's the test I keep failing.

I also become quite ill and tired when the steroid level is low enough for the test to be done. Nobody knows why, nor are they sure whether my collapse in January was an extreme form of whatever it is. But that also leads them to raise the dosage, and I go through the whole cycle again.

I loved your story about the panda. My sister had a tiny teddy bear from when she was about 6 months old. She passed it on to her godson. When she had her first child, teddy was returned. My niece still has him.

Good luck on Friday. I hope it goes well, and you get your chemo.

  • Hi everyone

    Just checking in.

sorry to hear you've had to change to IV chemo, and everything crossed it gives you some breathing room.

hang in there, and thanks so much for all that you are doing!!

I'm still on furlough, and likely to be at least until end of May. So I guess no more excuses for an untidy house and a jungle outdoors!! That said, most of the jungle has now been removed and bagged. Some bags are chipped for mulch, but weeds, ivy, wild garlic etc kept separate for the tip when it opens again.

Rob is back at work, just 3 of them in (normally about 8). I was surprised how much work they have in a motorcycle service shop. No way it's all keyworker bikes!! We discussed, and decided it would be better for him to be busy, as his anxiety levels are FAR worse when he is at home with too much time to think. His work clothes are left by the door and he goes off to wash up before doing anything else.

We are incredibly fortunate here in UK in many ways. In South Africa they had less than 24hrs warning of lockdown. And I mean lockdown. They can't even walk the dog. Food and medical are the only reason allowed out. They also banned alcohol and tobacco sales. Most managed to get enough in for 3 weeks. Then lockdown was extended another 2 weeks........ In some areas grocery trucks are being hijacked and looted, as the people have nothing. NGO's trying to deliver food parcels are getting arrested for being out. They have now called up 15 000 army reservists....... so people are either going to die of starvation, or they are going to die of bullet wounds while trying to get food.

    Anyways, stay safe folks.

    Hugs

    Karen

  • Good to hear from you !

But I've only come to say night night fruit loops and to wish everyone will sleep well and stay safe.......

Plenty of sleepy fairy dust available, help yourself if you wish.....

  • Stay safe and good luck with your next appt. The EMDR is really helping my anxiety. It is really weird, but effective. I don’t know what LP will make of it. Does he have any anxieties ? xx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
