  • Hi  , just wanted to say….

Sorry you find yourself here, but glad you have found this thread. I am sure you will enjoy the love and support that you will receive from all the lovely ‘Fruit Loops’ on here! That’s the Special name we use to describe all the thread members, because to be able to take a step back and enjoy a laugh with people who totally get where you are coming from, takes a special type of person and a slightly ‘Loopy’ one at that!

I’m sorry you are feeling rough, I mean REALLY ROUGH! I still remember my first dose of the dreaded Tax, NOTHING could have prepared me for how it made me feel. I remember aching from my jaw to my toes and after breezing through the ‘FEC’ as it was back then, this was a huge shock! I recall saying it was like being hit by the ‘Tax Truck! However not only that but the truck then reversed back over me! I’m pretty sure that’s how you feel now!
I think the only thing I can offer by way of advice, is to ask for pain meds if you are struggling with the aching. Also tell your Oncologist EXACTLY how you have been, at your next appointment. I mean EVERY detail. They have the option to reduce the dose or even change the treatment to a different drug from the same family but given weekly and it’s alot kinder to your body!
Just keep telling yourself this time will pass. Rest as much as you can and take pain meds if you need them. I know I did. Never was big on taking meds that I felt I didn’t need but during ‘Tax’ I was like, give me everything you’ve got!!

However awful you feel right now, I will remind you that you are one step closer to being out the other side of all this. One step closer to getting through this and back to your ‘new’ Normal. So just take it one day at a time. Keep note of all of your side effects to discuss with your Oncologist. Relax when you can and keep talking. Everyone on here who had Chemo will remember feeling just as you describe and it is CR*P! However YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS! Just as we all did!

I’m sending you the BIGGEST but gentlest ((((((((HUG))))))))). The lovely ladies on this thread/site will ALWAYS be here to listen and understand! Sending you much love Hun. Sal xxxx

  • Thanks .3 hours sleep it's going to be a long day !!!

  • Sorry I posted too soon! Hopefully you can see the full message now!
Must admit the fact that you had only 3hrs sleep made me smile…. Not in a cruel way, I promise! It made me smile because, way back when this thread started. I posted a reply saying I had only had 3.5hrs sleep! That was a looooooong time ago! But was the start of me finding the greatest bunch of ‘Fruit Loops’ who have turned out to be some of my greatest friends today!

So that being said I must say GOOD MORNING lovely Fruit Loops! Hope you are all doing as well as possible. Still think about you all often and really hope to come back on and catch up with you all properly, SOON! Love you all. Sal xxxx

p.s CELEBRATION TIME next week. As the AWAKE thread has another anniversary! Smiley

  • Hi  I hope you managed a bit more sleep? Please do ask your team about a non-alcohol based mouthwash for that sore mouth, there has to be something to help?

  • Great minds  . I was just about to suggest the same thing to  . Sometimes I had to rinse several times a day if my mouth started to tingle but it did stop ulcers in my case.

....I don't know if it will help to hear that the chemo made me very sick too. Please chat to your oncology department. Nowadays it is common to reduce the dose and even go to weekly so your body copes better. These options were less available ten years ago. However, if your aches change to burning under your feet, contact someone straight away. I thought this was normal and didn't discuss it until the skin was peeling off. This made it too late for help and I have neuropathy with permanent nerve damage. I haven't had any reoccurrence of the cancer though so I guess it was worth the few months of treatment.

I hope you have a better night tonight. I found breathing helped.....in for 6 , out for 8 ( or proportional whatever you can manage.) Somehow it relaxes your brain or at least you're so busy counting, you stop worrying!

    Take care. Keep chatting.
