Hi All
Just had full lymph node clearance and I have to massage my arm every night with some kind of thick cream. I've been using Aqueous cream but it doesn't absorb into the skin very well so I go to bed very greasy! Any recommendations? Also for anyone that has had this done, is the massaging a permanent thing for life or can I stop after so long? I forgot to ask x
My Surgeon recommended Bio oil. I used, and and am still using that and also Emu oil. I understand that Aqueous cream is no longer suggested as it tends to make skin thinner over time. My chiropodist told me some while ago, but I've also read it in several other places.
Aqueous cream can still be used in the bath or shower as a body wash.
I had full node clearance on 27th March and the cording and swelling have totally gone.
You should also keep up the recommended exercises on a fairly regular basis.
I've been using coconut oil, while in the bath. Then wash after massaging the scar. Aveeno is also very nice, I got a large bottle in Boots for £5 a couple of weeks ago.
I don't know how long, sorry.
xx
Karen
I used bio-oil on my scar area. It was wonderful. Within about 8 months all I had was a very fine white pencil line. For general body cream I use manuka honey body cream by Wild Ferns. It's gentle and very good for the skin and is a genuine NZ manuka honey product. You can buy it online.
Hi, lifelong eczema person here.
I spent decades using Aqueous cream only to find out it was intended as a washing/soap substitute and not intended for moisturising.
I've learnt that the best things to use are either the heavy white paraffin ointments like gasoline or epidermis, but for a more natural solution simple oils (they take slightly longer to have an effect) like sweet almond oil or argan....... the message being keep it pure, whatever it is you use.....

Hi Louby123,
I also had full lymph node clearance. I was never recommended a particular cream but I have always used 'Balneum Plus cream' which my doctor prescribed for me when I complained of an horrible itching sensation on my arm. I rub this in every night before going to bed. It does state I can use it twice a day. This cream is the equivalent to E45 itch cream. It rubs in really easy, and is not greasy at all. I'm assuming E45 cream would be fine to use. Do you also get a horrible itch that is impossible to find? It drives me crazy sometimes. I suppose it is something to do with nerve damage.
It is good to keep the arm moisturised, and I have been told to do this.
I hope you are doing ok,
Rach xx
HI Louby, I had node clearance 13 March and was told to moisturise by arm every day permanently I use Alveeno cream for that. I was also told it was a good idea to keep my arm exercises up to avoid lymphodema. I also use biooil on my scar.
I think it's worth it to avoid problems down the road. Good luck!
