My partner has just been diagnosed with Lobular breast cancer.
Where is the best source of information on this condition?
TIA,
Mark
Afternoon Mark /
Welcome to the Mac Breast Group, sorry to read your wife has been diagnosed and you find yourself joining this particular club :(
There are several ladies here also with Lobular who will no doubt reply when they notice your message.
Until then there is a Breast Cancer Care booklet about Lobular Breast Cancer you could have a read through and save if you prefer to read it in stages.
Just click this link - https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/38/invasive_2D00_lobular_2D00_breast_2D00_cancer.pdf
Do reply with any specific questions you may have, we're all here to help where we can. Have you been told what comes next ? surgery etc
It's scary stuff and a steep learning curve to start with but recovery rates are very high (my wife was diagnosed May 2012)
Take care, G n' J
Hi,
I've just completed chemo and surgery for lobular cancer - plus received the magical "it's all gone" message from my consultant - just radiotherapy to go as a belt and braces.
I'm sorry you are just starting on your kidnapping (as opposed to a journey as a journey is usually something pleasant and voluntary whereas cancer kidnaps us) - many cwtches - lobular was described to me as spidery as opposed to a lump - so the tumour has tentacles as opposed to a round shape.
I hope you and your partner are getting lots of support - your consultant should provide information plus lay out what treatment plan they decide on depending on what the biopsy comes back with.

Hi Mark
Here is definetely the best place for information and support and if I can give you one piece of advice it would be to stay of google. I did that and nearly scared the living daylights out of myself.
I too have had Lobular Breast Cancer and had my surgery to remove the cancerous area and the sentinel node on the 10th of April. I am not sure what information it is you are looking for but happy to answer any questions I can if that is of any help. Â
Hi Mark
I'm sorry to hear of your partners diagnosis, I know how scary this all is. I too have recently been diagnosed with lobular breast cancer. I have two areas of it in my breast.
This link here provides some valuable information and a diagram.
It was described to me as tentacles growing off the milk ducts, with little grape like shapes on. I was told it is quite hard to spot.
I am due to have surgery soon and I'm grateful to have a treatment plan as this makes me feel much more relaxed

Hi
I'm sorry to read of your wife's diagnosis. What were her symptoms?
I had lobular cancer. Diagnosed 3 years ago now. Treatment was very successful.
Lobular is rarer than ductal. Lobular grows from the lobules as opposed to milk ducts Within the breast.
It doesn't always appear as a solid mass and the main thing with lobular is that it is more than likely to appear in more than one place on diagnosis Either in the same breast or in the other breast to. I had other scans after diagnosis to check it was only a solitary tumour I had.
Lobular has been described to me as the lazier cancer. Mine was grade 2 not a 3.
When the extent of the tumour is confirmed, the treatment Is the same for ductal cancer.
Do you have a treatment plan lined up already?
All the best
love
Julia
Hi ,
I also had lobular bc, grade 2 and stage 3. Surgery and chemo done, waiting for radiotherapy. I agree with the other responses the breast cancer care booklet is probably one of the best sources of information.
I think lobular breast cancer is a little bit sneaky because it does not always present itself with a lump and does not always show up on a mammogram but as Crystaljuju has said the treatment will generally be the same for someone in the same position with ductal bc. When I first joined this site a few months ago, I remember Crystaljuju writing then that lobular cancer is the lazier cancer. I quite like to think of it like that.
Any specific questions?

Hi Mark
I too had lobular last year grade 2 stage 2. I'm also oestrogen+ so my treatment was lumpectomy radiotherapy and now 10 years of oestrogen I
inhibitors.Â
You're partners treatment plan will depend on lots of different things. But just bear in mind that breast cancer is very treatable these daysÂ
Good luck and well done on  finding this site. You'll get great advice and supportÂ

Hi Elaine
I read on your profile that you were getting the Oncotype test and wondered if you did and if you had chemo and how you are doing. I am at your stage three years ago now and very worried as they won't give me the gene testing and have said no chemo even though I have two positive nodes. Hope you are doing well.. Sarah
Hi ,
Elaine has not posted for over two years so she might not get your message. I can't help you with your question myself, why not start a new discussion?
Cwtches,
Gay xxx
Hi Sarah
Im doing well thanks. Life is back to normal and no sign of recurrence.
Yes I did get the Oncotype dx test and it showed my risk was low of it returning therefore I didnt need chemo. When you say they wont give you the gene test, what do you mean by that. Are you meaning a genetic test to see if you carry the gene for breast cancer??
Since I had it my next door neighbour was diagnosed and also had positive nodes. She had a full axillary clearance and didnt need chemo either. She had radiotherapy and they did a bone scan which was clear. She does have some kind of injection every few months for her bones. Not sure what it's called.
I know this is a very worrying time for you, just try to take it all a day at a time. Once you know you're treatment plan, you'll get on and get through.
Speak to you're breast care nurse, mine was fantastic and so supportive as was this forum.
Life will return to normal I promise. Take care of yourself
Elaine
