I'm off to lanzarote next week (wahooooo!) should I stop taking my tamoxifen? Or just hydrate / wear my surgery stockings? I know the guidelines are just are to stop taking for long haul, but it's only 4ish hours

If you have to have an operation I think they ask you to stop a fortnight before. I wouldn't worry about it for a four hour flight but I might leave them at home during the holiday! That's just me ;)

    Hi

I asked my surgeon and oncologist about this last week as I am going to Majorca In June and I was told to stop taking them 2 weeks before and not to start till 1 week after I return.

Does this apply to the aromatase inhibitors too?

Tamoxifen is known to increase the chances of a blood clot. I don't think the other AIs have the same risk but check the leaflet with your package

Hi, it seems like everyone has been given different advice. My oncologist told me to not stop taking tamoxifen for flights, went to Majorca and Lanzarote last year. Maybe it is dependent on other factors.

I did wear travel socks☺ though. Have a great holiday.

I went on holiday to Cuba and continued taking Tamoxifen. I wore my sexy white travel tights and took an aspirin the day before flying. Im sure you'll be fine. Happy holidays!

I've continued taking with a few flights less than 4 hours and just wore flight socks, moved often and drank plenty water during flight.

My GP did a bit of research for me when i asked if should stop Tamoxifen 2 weeks prior to Caribbean flight of 9 hours...her findings were inconclusive. Some advice said stop, others that the effects of the drug continue for 4-6 weeks so pointless stopping.

She said choice was mine...so i wore my flight socks and stopped anyway...2 weeks break is ok.

    Enjoy your hols.

  • Hello

Has anyone had any recent advice on taking tamoxifen and flying please? Off to New York in 2 weeks and am wondering what to do

I’m loathe to stop as currently not having any side effects so worried if I stop and then start again I may get side effects again like at the beginning.

    thanks
