Hi everyone I know we have talked about letrozole side effects joint pain and hot flushes but I've had a cough since easter !!! I have had a cold in between but now it's quite a dry cough... my gp doesn't seem concerned and I have read it's a side effect. Just wondered if anyone else was suffering as well....

Have a lovely evening .

  • Hi Lou,

I've read lists of side effects of Letrozole and cough is on it also another lady in another thread mentioned bruising and that is on the list as well.

However the list includes almost everything you can think of.

A cough going on for so long needs looking in to. I don't mean anything scary I was thinking more asthma/ mild COPD. If you go back to your doc they should do a spinometory test where you blow into a tube to test how much lung capacity you have. I only mention it as I'm on an inhaler myself.

I hope you get it sorted

    Love Helen

Hi Lou, I too have a dry cough and at times sound a little 'wheezy' ( commenced Letrozole 1/6/16), and have had this cough since chemo 5/6 of Taxotere . Chest X-ray / CT of chest clear. Not too troublesome tho, irritating yes, and voice sometimes goes as though I have a bad throat . Think the worst s/e of Letrozole is now the nausea - really bad, and have started Domperidone 3 times a day , which works well. Really couldn't function at all with the severe nausea at all. Reading  the s/e leaflet , there are just so many, but suppose there is with anything.

I have been on Letrozol since April 2013 and was told at my five year check that I would be on it until 2023.

I developed a dry cough in Dec 2015 which lasted for around 6 months.   Xrays and other tests were clear.     I started a dry cough again in November 2017 which I still have a year later.  Again the xrays are clear,  but after reading previous comments am wondering if this could be due to ongoing medication.   I also take omoeprazole, calcium and blood pressure tablets.    Anyone else having problems?

No, mine are Indapamide.   I foster rescue pups so do a lot of walking, and play tennis and badminton 3/4 times a week, so do get a lot of exercise (very few hills here in Suffolk where I live!)

  • Must be the Letrozole. You must be really fit xx

  • I have been taking letrozole since September 26. I have had a nasty dry irritable cough which started around that time.  I have been told it’s unlikely to be letrozole!  I have had a chest X-ray which is clear. I have told it may me reflux but sure it’s not.  Then nasal drip again it’s not.  Now asthma.  I don’t think it’s asthma either but waiting for more tests.  (No wheezing). It’s really affecting my life difficult to socialise, eat , drink.
I have read that cough is possible side effect of letrozole and feel it’s likely what it is.
