Diagnosed with meningioma and visited neurosurgeon 2 weeks ago to be told only option is full on surgery, I have no other information right now and feel like I’m treading water in a sea of uncertainty. Best guess is after Christmas, but I am so bloody scared and need someone to talk to because 3 months is a long time to try and hold it all together and pretend I’m ok

  • I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in this horrible position. I have an astrocytoma so will let someone else with more understanding of your exact condition give you more advice. But the wait from diagnosis to surgery to results really is the worst and I feel for you. Heart

Ignore what isn’t helpful to you, but it took me a while to realise this - you don’t have to pretend to be ok. Find the people who can handle your honesty (some can’t) and let them help you. This experience changes you, but some of it is for the better.

I found that learning more about my condition helped me, but that’s not for everyone. And don’t ever think you’re not strong because you’re scared. Maybe your GP can help with anxiety medication and that’s ok too.

I’m giving you a big hug, and you can always ask questions or just vent. We’re all here together xxxx

  • Hi

a warm welcome to the community. Sorry to hear about all that has been going on. I'll echo what Leeluu said - waiting is the worst. However, please take the fact that they are not rushing to do something right now as a positive.

Feeling overwhelmed and uncertain is totally natural. Can I suggest you give the MacMillan Helpdesk a call. They can hopefully help with finding you someone to talk to about everything.

This is a safe and supportive space so please reach out here anytime. There's always someone about to listen who gets it, someone to hold your hand and to offer a virtual hug when its needed. You're not alone. We've got you.

It’s always good to talk so please remember that you can also call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, benefit and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

I've taken the liberty of looking up some generic info for you - Meningioma in adults | Macmillan Cancer Support

For now though please focus on the facts as you have been told them. It might be an idea to write down all the questions, fears/concerns that you may have and keep those notes to take to your next appointment. There's no such thing as a silly question. Early appointments can be quite overwhelming so if possible take someone along with you. The notes will help to keep you on track and help stop you from forgetting to ask about something that is important to you.

For now though I'm sending you a huge virtual hug and lots of positive energy.

    love n hugs
