Hiya! I have a recent diagnosis of a a large right insular lobe Intrinsic tumour with areas of patchy aggressiveness. Trying to get my debulking surgery booked in for as soon as possible as the neurosurgeon is confident they can remove most of it. Feeling very antsy and ready to...get everything over and done with. What is the typical hospital stay length and then recovery from home time? My work have been understanding of everything so far and very flexible but I worry about how long I'll be entitled to sick leave etc.
I literally have no idea what to expect with anything - im only 35 and was misdiagnosed by my gp for about 8 months.
Hi
I had an awake craniotomy last August and went hime a few hours later. Back to work next day but only from home until the clips came out five days later.
I never claimed sick pay as I was able to arrange my work around appointments.
Main problem for me has been a lot of medical appointments, chemo radio blood tests etc and as Im not allowed to drive and live in a rural area its been a nightmare travelling!
good luck!
Hiya
Wow! That's a really quick turnaround! The travelling to/from medical appointments is always a nightmare. I found traffic moving in the opposite direction was a seizure trigger, especially on the trains so im having to get family members to drive me everywhere.
Thank you for your reply
HI Anni
a warm welcome to the online community. So sorry to hear about all that is going on life's cruel.
I supported my late husband through his glioblastoma journey. He had an awake craniotomy to debulk his tumour and was home 48hrs later. He developed an infection the following day and was re-admitted to hospital for 5 days until they got the infection under control. He recovered quite quickly from the surgery and was out and about for walks within a day or two of coming home after the infection. Post-surgery your medical team will discuss with you whether further treatment is required. G had 6 weeks of oral chemo/radiotherapy in combination which started about a month post-surgery. He had no real side effects from that. Fatigue was the main one and that kicked in around week 4 and lasted for a month after the treatment ended.
Can I suggest that ahead of your next appointment that you write down all your questions, fears/concerns and take those notes to the appointment to act as a script? These early appointments can feel quite overwhelming so your notes will help to ensure that you don't forget to ask about something that's important to you.
Your manager at work will be able to advise on your company's sickness policy.
Take this one step at a time. Focus on the facts as you have been told them by your dr as he/she knows your unique situation best. Steer clear of Dr Google- he's a scary dude!
