Hello everyone.
i hope it’s okay to post in this group because, at this stage, I don’t have a definite diagnosis of bowel cancer. However, I’ve had a positive result to my bowel screening test and now have to go to the hospital on the 13th of this month (next Monday) for a colonoscopy and biopsy. I’m very scared because I’ve had symptoms for quite some time such as chronic constipation, some bleeding (but not a lot) and extreme tiredness which is very unusual for me. Stupidly, I didn’t seek advice earlier and now, am terribly worried and scared that I’m going to get a diagnosis of cancer. I hope you don’t mind me posting here as I do feel rather a fool. I will understand if I’m not allowed to get support here because I don’t have a definite diagnosis yet. Thank you very much, Jacqui x
Hi Sammijo
You can ask me anything that’s what this space is for anything that you want if I can’t help someone will
I had a four inch cancer in my rectum, my rectum was removed along with the cancer the surgeon connected me up and the surgery needed time to heal. I had an Ileostomy(stoma) called Whoopi for thirteen months. September 2nd I was reversed and whoopi was pushed back in her rightful place. My avatar is a sleeping Whoopi
My treatment was fantastic, I was frightened and had terrible anxiety but I decided there was nothing I could do so I handed myself over to the experts. I just tried my hardest to keep as healthy as I could.
I detested that cancer in me and having a stoma was my option to get rid
Not all need stomas most don’t, some have chemo before op l, some op then chemo some like me just the op. It’s individual to you. So please don’t compare until you get your plan then you can put up questions and members will help.
You can read my back story if you click on my name it will take you to my profile
Take care

Hi. I had years of sitting on the toilet trying to go it drained me. I ignored it. I was in denial until it got to the point I couldn’t go to the toilet and ate food I could process
To be honest I was so relieved to get some help and not think I was imagining it taking laxatives. I really should have gone before and insisted my GP checked they told me it was piles! I was stressed and thought everything I felt was Cancer it messed with my head
When I woke up from the op and felt Whoopi I was so happy because I knew that Ghoul was in the bin
The positive fit saved my life. I had all the tests and was operated on.
You may not have Cancer it could be diverticulitis or polyps there’s lots of things that can cause it. My hubby had two positive tests and his wasn’t cancer. His was polyps , IBS then diverticulitis
Ann
Thanks Sammijo
i am really doing well. This site’s helped me so much
It’s really a good thought to think that you may have diverticulitis now. My husband had years of awful episodes and we had so much stress with it.
He’s managing well with diet changes. Sometimes he has things he now knows will cause issues
Keep us posted.
Take care
Ann
Hi Sophiemarine & Sammyjo!
Please don't feel silly coming on here. A few years ago, I took a bowel screening home test and sent it away and it came back that they found abnormalities in my bowel and naturally I was climbing the walls thinking it was cancer like yourselves. I went for the colonoscopy and as it turned out there were polyps present in my bowel but turned out to be non- cancerous but if left could have become so and they were removed. Since then, all my bowel screenings have been clear. Unfortunately, I am here supporting my husband who does have bowel cancer - recurrant bowel cancer and he is one of those people who never did home bowel screenings because `he was scared what they would find` but unfortunately for him they did find something that did turn out to be bowel cancer and they got rid of but has unfortunately returned again after being 6 months post op he had the operation in January this year and we found out in June it had returned so he is now on cycles of chemotherapy. I've never done the `I told you so` thing because I think he realises that himself now and maybe if he did do one of those tests a couple of years ago if they did find it then they could have acted quicker he apparently was walking about with this tumour for 4 years without showing symptoms and they only began to surface at the end of 2020. So as embarrassing as these tests might be with having to poo in a bowl or whatever and then having to smear some on a testing stick and post it away, it can save your life. I wish you both well and hopefully the outcome will be good for both of you.
