Hello everyone.

i hope it’s okay to post in this group because, at this stage, I don’t have a definite diagnosis of bowel cancer. However, I’ve had a positive result to my bowel screening test and now have to go to the hospital on the 13th of this month (next Monday) for a colonoscopy and biopsy. I’m very scared because I’ve had symptoms for quite some time such as chronic constipation, some bleeding (but not a lot) and extreme tiredness which is very unusual for me. Stupidly, I didn’t seek advice earlier and now, am terribly worried and scared that I’m going to get a diagnosis of cancer. I hope you don’t mind me posting here as I do feel rather a fool. I will understand if I’m not allowed to get support here because I don’t have a definite diagnosis yet. Thank you very much, Jacqui x

    Hi Jacqui

Do not feel a fool. You have a colonoscopy booked now which is really a good and brave step forward. I had symptoms for quite a while before I went for a colonoscopy - I did not think I had cancer. My head did run away with me at times though and when I caught it, I would have to pull my thoughts right in and I had a sentence I would say to myself to try and over ride the worrying thoughts - "You have a test booked, there is nothing you can do about the results today - make the best of the day you are in"  That helped me a lot.

I will be thinking about you on Monday. Ali x

Hi .This is the hardest part of your journey   One thing that's won't help you is to look on Google. As in our minds we take on the symptoms of the things that are written ..This site is the true story of everyone who is going through the same thing .

Please wait for your results and take someone with you on the 13th.  All the best  .Kissing heart Alaine  Their is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Hi Sophiemarianne

Welcome to the group; everyone on here is at different stages of their journey and lots of people post on here before they get a diagnosis.  Please don't feel like a fool its normal to think 'what if' and 'why didn't I' but its much better to look forward and try and stay positive (easier said than done).  You are on the right track now!

Good luck on Monday and remember even if you do have 'the big C', bowel cancer really is very treatable.

    Take care

  • Hi Sophiemarianne

You’re not a fool and I think it’s brave to be here. You’re braver than I was. Head in the sand me for such a long time. Then I got the appointment, I was anxious and felt silly.

I then realised, I’d been so uncomfortable for so long, I couldn’t eat many things I couldn’t open my bowels properly and I began to turn it.

I wanted to find out and get rid.

You’re now on the path to getting help to sort it out.
It may not be cancer.but if it is there’s amazing treatments.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy and try to put it out of your mind until the 12th when you’ll do the bowel prep.
A treat a day til then.
    Good luck with your colonoscopy.

  • Hi Jacqui. Welcome to the group and do not ever feel like a fool. You have come to the best place for support, help and advice.

I had all the symptoms you describe and I ignored it, much to my peril. I tell everyone it was the poop test that saved my life and encourage them to do theirs when it drops through the door. Try not to panic, have a positive mental attitude after all you don't know anything yet!

I had 3 polyps, 2 were 2mm in size and the other was 30mm at the entrance of my rectum. Anyway I had an operation to remove bowel cancer 17th November last year, chemotherapy January to March 2021, and a reverse ileostomy 25th May 2021. I returned to work on 13th Sept. not full-time hours yet as I still get tired easily and am not fully fit but I'm still here to tell the tale.

Please stay strong and positive because as I said earlier you don't know anything yet.

Take care and keep us posted.

  • Hi

Eating can be challenging I found that I couldn’t eat high fibre. I had three small meals a day snack size with two complan drinks made with milk between. My hubby came up with the idea and it really gave me a boost. I was blocking so it was really difficult to process anything and the meal supplements were spot on  I was very bloated too loose clothing really helped

Take one day at a time

    sending you a hug
