Hello,
My FIL has Prostate cancer and was diagnosed with Rectal cancer Oct last year. He underwent targeted radiotherapy which reduced the symptoms, until about 4 weeks ago.
The cancer is on the march again & he was assessed by a palliative team (at home) yesterday. He lives on his own (with support from an amazing carer) and his wish is to stay at home.
We believe that he has ‘months’ but we don’t know what to expect. I lost my father 5 months ago very suddenly to Sepsis / Prostate cancer plus I am awaiting my own biopsy results.
I’d really appreciate any insights or support suggestions that you can offer - tough times.
Just writing this has been hard but I hope it will help.
Thank you

Hi
Welcome to the forum but firstly can I say I hope your own biopsy brings better news for you and I can see from your post you are facing a lot of difficult situations at once in your family . A very hard time indeed !
I have linked in an NHS booklet and a Macmillan one for your consideration. It gives advice from on wider issues from the physical aspects regarding Physio , occupational therapy through to the medical aspects of pain management and how to access support in your area . The other resources you might like to consider is our helpline staff who have Macmillan nurses who can chat through with you all aspects from experience. They might be able to give you advice on how to best prepare and where to go to for support .
You also might like to look at services like Marie Curie as they are a great resource when things progress . There is information in the booklets . The palliative care team are great at working within a multidisciplinary team and able to guide your family through the various stages .
Take care ,
Court
