Hi,

I'm new to this site.  I'm 54 years of age and have recently undergone emergency surgery to remove a small bowel cancer.  I'm due to start chemotherapy on 20 April so am a little apprehensive about that.

As my small bowel cancer is rare, there's not much information at the moment and doctors couldn't say if chemo would be beneficial so I've decided to go ahead to reduce the risk of future tumours.  I'm joining a clinical trial for small bowel cancer called the BALLAD trial at Liverpool Clatterbridge Centre for Cancer.

Would be good to hear from anyone with same kind of cancer as I've been told it's rare.

Many thanks :-)

Julie

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum . I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and we do have other people currently on the forum too with small bowel cancer . I will need a wee bit time to try and remember who !
Hopefully they will see this as you have labelled it well and pop on .

speaks highly of services in your area and also keeps us going in so many ways so I will tag him In to say “Hi “ too .

In terms of the clinical trial the components of your treatment are familiar to the bowel forum so we could certainly help out with information regarding them .

  • Hi,

Thanks so much for letting me know.

  • Hello Julie

I don’t often look at this site but wanted to reply to your post when saw it. It is harder to find any threads on small bowel cancer now it is the same group as other less rare cancers. It used to have its own group on Macmillan site.

I was diagnosed with stage 3 small bowel cancer and had surgery in 2015. I wasn’t offered chemotherapy as there was no evidence that it was helpful. I think it is so rare there isn’t any evidence either way. I am pleased to hear there is a clinical trial taking place and like you if I had been offered follow up treatment I would have taken it. As it is I have been clear and healthy for almost 5 years now.

All the very best with your treatment. Let me know how it goes.
