My husband was put on cancer pathway a few weeks ago and we had just exchanged contracts to move from south of England to Aberdeenshire in Scotland. We were granted an extension on the completion date but it is now fixed for 22 January 2021. This morning he was told that he has bowel cancer and they are arranging for the site removal to be tattooed. He is also to have additional scan of his chest and blood test.
My question is how quickly can we get his treatment and medical details moved to Aberdeen? I am so worried about delay to his treatment and have no idea how to actually go about this.
Has anyone had experience of this?
Take care and have the best Christmas you can. x
Sheila
Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me. We moved house in August although not as far as you are doing and the stress was horrendous so my heart goes out to you for having your hubby’s diagnosis to deal with on top of everything else. I got in touch with the local Colorectal Support team and they said that I would have to get a referral from my new doctor and then they would request my records from my previous team. This was done at the beginning of October but they have apparently been too busy to ‘set me up on the system’. I’m hopefully looking at a 4 year clear colonoscopy so I appreciate that my appointment is not urgent. Your scenario is a little different as you’re only just starting out. Have you been allocated a local support nurse? Hopefully they could liaise with your new team and see if he would be able to have the scans and tattoos done down here or whether the consultant would be happy for him to wait until you get up there? Alternatively contact the consultant through his secretary and see what he feels is the best way forward? Bowel Cancer is pretty slow growing but news like this can knock you off your feet and you’ll both want him to start treatment as soon as possible. Start making a bit of noise and see if you can get a plan in place. When I was diagnosed the Gold Standard was everything done within 2 weeks of each other but I’m not sure if that’s still in place with the recent issues.
Please let us know how you get on and we’ll be happy to support you both through this. Stay away from google and ask anything you want on here.
Take care
Karen x
