E48 here. I've now gone for a second opinion at the Royal Free, London, and the suggestion is that I try Capecitabine (Xeloda) to see how I get on. Also cortosteroids for the liver problems. Comments, advice, and specially personal experience very, very welcom. Thanks.
Hi Nicky, Colon cancer, diagnosed in September, now spread to the liver. No surgery, and was advised by the first oncologist to avoid chemo and radiotherapy because of side effects + my age. Went for second opinion, and was prescribed as above. Took my first steroid just now. I have abdominal bloating which causes breathlessness and extreme tiredness. Chemo to come if I decide to go ahead. Was very healthy before this horror struck me, and am still traumatised by it all.
Hi Cheerful Mum ,. Doing the 5 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy tabs also 1st week..any side effects from radiotherapy..have read a few things that do not seem pleasent.. worried..good news about tumour reduced in size , I'm guessing surgery is next step x
Hi E48...I would go with what your second Oncologist advised, & take the Capecitabine Tabs. I had 6mths of them this year, & they shrunk the 2 small Mets.in my Lung. which enabled me to have 'Lung Ablation' last month. You don't mention your age. I am 71, & had no side effects until my last cycle...which were uncomfortable, though reasonably minor at the time. However, my Oncologist stopped them then. IMO, it's worth the trying if it means a possible shrinkage.
Best wishes
