Hello to anyone who reads this,I’m new to this and a little scared of what lies ahead

3 weeks ago I was sent by gp for a colonoscopy. He found a large Tumor a few inches in from my anus, it’s almost as big as the space that it’s in

ive been diagnosed with cancer And had mri/ct and another mri with contrast on my liver because of a blood clot

I’m experiencing quite a lot of pain all of the time and I just can’t Seem to escape it

does anyone have any advice please

  • , can't directly help, but mine was low down and was removed successfully. See my profile. I can help by sending a ((( hug))) and the thought that you are not alone with this.

  • Hi ,

    Welcome to the forum .

You might like to contact our helpline for guidance .0808 808 0000. If it was me though I would be asking for better pain management from either your GP or your surgeon if you have one now . Have they made any suggestions to help you with it ?

Hopefully once treatment starts you will notice a difference but I would hate to think of you in the mean time enduring that .

Have you got a treatment plan yet or is that still in the pipeline?

    take special care ,

  • Hi I have been like you having a lot of pain. I was prescribed pain killers Naproxen and morphine too. I had my 5 weeks treatment radiotherapy and chemo and the pain is getting better. Although still there I can cope with it better. You need to have a chat with your specialist nurse or doctor. I know what you’re going through just get all the help you can. Take care

Thanks for the advise, I’ve spoken to the nurse today and she’s going to contact my gp to change my pain medication, how long was it during the chemo/radio before you noticed it was helping you?

Thanks for the kind words, I’m going into the unknown, my tumor is low down also I’m looking forward to getting it out but I realise it’s not going to be A easy road.i am scared of what’s ahead and I consider my self lucky that it’s only in my Bowel because  it’s  so low down I’m finding it painful sitting standing and lying down, when I have a real hot bath the pain eases off

  • During the treatment I was taking morphine pretty much every 4 hours. I probably noticed that it was getting better towards the End of the 5 weeks treatment. I am still taking naproxen twice a day but usually morphine only twice now.
I used to take hot baths too and I used a hot water bottle to relieve the pain but I was told that extreme heat is not good. However it was such a relief that I continue to do it.
Do you know the plan they have got for you? When I started radiotherapy, they Did anything they could to help me with the pain. It does get better, take care.

    I am very scared

  • I am at a very similar stage to you - diagnosed but treatment hasn’t started yet. Certain chairs, sitting in the car and late evening are all times when I get pain and discomfort. I have found that 2 paracetamol makes the pain disappear for 4+ hours, it’s magic. I have been told that it will be a lot worse once treatment starts, but paracetamol works for now. Hope it helps you too.

  • Cskitt I wish you all the best. Reading your post I find myself in the same place. It hurts to sit down. I am taking hot baths and using ice. And am taking otc pain medication. Any other suggestions?
