Live with hernia and prolapse or go for surgical repair?

Just wondering if there are others who share or have resolved my present dilemma: do I continue to make the best of the discomfort - bordering on disability - of my hernia and prolapse or do I go for a surgical repair?

The hernia appeared about six months post-op, followed shortly by the prolapse and I've lived with this now for about 16 months.  The daily round of belt wearing and difficulty in managing bag replacement is inclining me towards surgical repair of the hernia and prolapse, which I'm told is relatively straightforward with good prospects of being successful. (I've already ruled out thoughts of a full reversal.)

Does anyone have experience of this kind of surgical repair they wish to share, please?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Whilst I can't share any relevant experiences with you, I noticed that your post hasn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Wishing you all the best with whatever you decide to do.

  • Hi

My mum had two hernias following surgery . But she did not have a stoma . Is it the stoma that has prolapsed?

I am wondering if the stoma group would have some better information.

I will link it in for you .

    Take care ,
