Hi I am married and my husband has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Its in his bones and liver and it is terminal. I need to get some mental health help as I am really struggling and I want to do my best to support him. Can anyone help?
Hi Bobbins
Sorry to hear about your husband's cancer but well done for also recognosing your own needs at this time - as taking action to get support now can be beneficial for you both.
I'd suggest you talk to your GP to engage support or you can look at your local hospital trust website and see if you can do a self referral. If your not sure where to look on their website, try "talking therapies" or "IAPT" in their search box.
You may also find having a chat with the Macmillan helpline (available as a call or webchat) helpful.
Additionally, you may wish to discuss with your husband's CSN or Macmillan rep at info centre to see if there are any other things that could make your life easier. This could be hands on social care support, respite services, blue badge, financial support, etc.
And finally, there is a "CARERS" forum on this community site which may give you support and advice from others in your position.
All the best
