Hi my mum got uncureble bowel cancer stage 4 was diagnosed 6 weeks ago this last couple days she's sleeping a lot more going to bed at 8 and sleeping to 10 and sleeping in the day is this normal or is it sign things getting worse

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum but I am so sorry to read about your mum !

It would really depend what stage her cancer is at . Some people with a stage 4 diagnosis still have treatment and continue to live a quality life treating it as a chronic condition whilst others have much more tumour burden and it does affect their wellbeing!
Did the hospital suggest if she will be getting a treatment plan ?

If you would like to discuss this with our Macmillan nurses you could phone our helpline staff 0808 808 0000. It’s completely confidential but they would be able to give you some insight in what to look out for !

    Take care ,

No treatment plan sent home from hospital 6 weeks ago with pain killers

Have put in for palliative care but not heard anything yet

  • My apologies . I have just realised I know you !

How are you getting on with your mum post discharge ?

Hope you are coping ok as it’s a bit disappointing not to have the palliative care team support in place !

Have a think to see if you are emotionally at a point where you would be able to read this ! Completely your choice but this link to Marie Currie gives some insight for relatives who want to be prepared on the physical changes that the body goes through as the disease progresses !

Fatigue may be one of them but it might be more pertaining to people who are sleeping most of the day and night so I would not over read into it either !

I think it’s so difficult at times to separate cancer symptoms from other issues .

Also sent you a friends request if you ever want to chat !

Take care and send your mum all our love !
