My husband has been diagnosed with rectal cancer, he has been given the choice of 5 doses of radiotherapy then the operation to take it out, or 5 weeks of radiotherapy with chemo then wait 8 weeks to see if he's got a complete response he will then have to have 3 monthly checkups to see if it returns! If it dies it will be back to the operation. This dilemma is horrendous because the operation sounds so bad and he will left with a permanent stoma bag. I don't feel he should have had to make this choice himself we're so torn with this.
. Yes it’s a difficult decision to make and there are people on here who have had a positive response and also those who have had a return of the cancer and then had to have the surgery. If you type ‘watch and wait’ in the search box at the top of the screen then it will bring up previous posts that you can read and also click on people names to view their profile.
Ive attached a couple of links that a successful wait and wait member has posted and you can also see the replies that others have added
Hope these help
Take care
