Had a colonoscopy yesterday 20th september.Doctor said he thinks hes removed cancel cell. He took skin samples for biopsies. Have to wait about 3 weeks for results . He seems optimistic.
Hi Jockney
Just want to welcome you to the forum !
I think the Doctors seem to be fairly certain of what they are seeing during a colonoscopy. After the results are through they generally have a Multi disciplinary meeting to see the best way forward !
You will see many people on the forums who have had a resection for a bowel tumour and are back leading a good life !
Did you have many symptoms ?
Please feel free to ask any questions!

I have attached an information leaflet for you. They will first of all get the information on the cell type from the lab . If it’s definitely cancer they will do some more scans to get some better imagining. They like this for theatre and it allows them to stage the tumour . They get a feel for how deep it is located in the bowel wall !
Bowel cancer treatment can differ slightly depending on its location . If it’s a rectal tumour they may do some chemo radiation where you have a course of radiotherapy at the same time have oral chemotherapy and move to surgery if required after that . If it is in a different location in the Colon they may go straight to surgery and after the lab report comes back decide if chemotherapy is needed . Bowel cancer caught early is very treatable and even more extensive spreads can still have a lot of treatment options !
I think everyone on the forum will say this part is tough when they gather together the information but getting to the treatment plan brings some structure and a way forward . We are here to support you as you navigate this ! We also have a helpline 0808 808 0000 who can chat through any aspect of this from fear , treatment to finances !
I will tag in Kareno62 and hopefully others who have been through this before will give you some encouragement!
If you need help managing the anxiety aspect speak to you GP they are an important part of your team in the community!

Hold onto that Jockney they are inclined to know what they are talking about in this aspect !
A lot of people report weight loss as soon as the fast track referral goes in as they are full of adrenaline and anxiety.
Hopefully your biopsy results come back soon !
Keep reminding yourself it is very treatable!
Remember your Doctor has had a good visual on the area and know the surgery etc that will help .

Hi NannyAnny
It is complex isn’t it ? Apparently the left and right side of the colon are formed differently in the womb too ! I only found that out recently !
Colon cancers sometimes are able to be resected right away !
Everything is governed by what they find in research and it seems rectal cancers get better outcomes of you treat the area first ! I am no dr but I always thought it is because there is more soft tiue in that area ! Maybe someone more informed will enlighten us !

Hi Jockney and a warm welcome to the board from me. Court has covered a lot of the early information but I shall add my usual advice of do not google! The information is out of date, misleading and downright scary in places! The waiting for biopsy results is very stressful but once you have a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a little better?
As court says bowel cancer is very treatable nowadays. If you click on my name then you can see the treatment that I went through although I did have a couple of hiccups along the way. I am currently heading towards my 5 year NED (no evidence of disease) as are the 2 friends that I went through it with at the same time.
It’s a roller coaster that no one wants to be on but we’ll be happy to support you through this and answer any questions that you have - there is nothing too daft or embarrassing!
Take care
Karen x
