Hi just got my phone call saying I will need chemotherapy as cancer was in my nodes  does anyone no how long chemotherapy is usually I am waiting for oncologist appointment  I had my operation on 9th August

  • Hi . Do you know how many nodes were affected or what stage you are? A recent trial showed that 3 months chemo was just as effective as 6 months chemo for stage 3 patients but with less side effects although your oncologist will be the best person to advise you on this

Hope your appointment comes through soon

  • Hi Lavender60 ironically I had my operation on the 9th August to…I received a letter from my oncology consultant the other day giving me a date for mid September to discuss my chemotherapy treatment. My cancer was said to have gone to some of my blood vessels and nodes too.

  • Oh I have had no letter yet just phone call to say it was t3 n2  and I would get letter in post so what was your staging

  • Hi Lavender60.

I had LAR with temporary stoma in January this year and histology showed T3N1M0 - so 1 node affected.  I had FOLFOX chemotherapy – 6 x 2 week cycles which stated in early March; as Kareno62 said a recent trail (SCOT trail) showed 3 months chemotherapy was just as effective as 6 months but with less side effects. Oncologist gave me FOLFOX rather than CAPOX due to having a stoma.  I understand they like to start chemotherapy within 2 months of your operation.  Chemotherapy is never pleasant but certainly doable.

Hope you get your appointment through soon and do let us know what your oncologist suggests.
