Hi all,
I had the bad news today that my bowel cancer has come back again in the same site the original cancer was last year seen on my recent CT scan and my last CEA blood level had gone up to 16.
I had an emergency right hemi colectomy for adenocarcinoma stage 3 last November followed by 4 sessions of adjunctive chemo. I am very disappointed to be told it is back and I need another operation at a specialist centre in Basingstoke, where the tumour will be removed and my abdominal cavity washed out with chemotherapy fluid.
I am really scared that this is it now, and I won't recover my health as I have done after the last operation.
I live on my own and not sure how I will cope going through all this.
If anyone has experience of this or any other advice you can give I would be grateful.
Best wishes
Lou
Oh , great to hear from you .
Sounds as though you are in good spirits and I am pleased to hear that . You know I like your writing style and had missed you .
Hope you get to enjoy your weeks off till the scan and hope the chemo has done it’s job .
Hope your still enjoying your WhatsApp chats and walks were possible.
I have managed to meet up with a few friends for walks this week and enjoyed both the walk and the in person chat !
Restrictions are slowly lifting here .
Glad to hear you are reasonably comfortable and able to enjoy your day .
Take care ,

Hi Gaul and Court,
Nice to hear from you Gaul, we missed you here. I have my 4th chemo session tomorrow then a scan on the 9th April so they can see if it is working or not. Hopefully it will have had a good response. Not looking forward to tomorrow but at least I am nearing the finish line. I am in some discomfort also mainly with my stomach, keep getting quite bad gas which I never had before the chemo so I am really hoping that is the cause of it and not the cancer.
I had a short bike ride on Tuesday and it was nice to be out in the sun, had a couple of long walks also which was lovely.
Lots of luck with the scan Gaul, and take care of yourselves,
Hi Court,
Thank you for asking. I'm ok thank you. I've just had my second cycle of chemo. Symptoms of nausea are horrible and my appetite it bad, but I make up for it between cycles to keep strong. I've been walking when I feel able. My 2 year old keeps me fighting! Although the chemo can make me feel low mentally. Once I feel well I'm usually back to myself again and feeling positive.
I just hope that the chemo controls or shrinks any cancer cells on the peritoneum and then I will be put forward for the operation fingers crossed.
I wonder if anyone knows of anyone with a good outcome in my situation with peritoneal deposits?
Best wishes,
Lucy
You might like to have a look on Bowel cancer U.K. forum . There are people doing well following hipec surgery for peritoneal disease over there . Might give you a wee bit encouragement. Lots of people use both forums .
Sounds great that you have made it out walking . That’s great ! Nausea is just horrible and I hope it lifts quickly. Have they been able to give you better anti sickness meds ?
Incidentally when my mum was diagnosed back in 2009 stage 4 I was in contact with a younger patient who had a peritoneal spread . He got surgery and passed a full decade cancer free and went on to become a dad !
On a different forum and off living his life .
Take care ,

Ah thank you! That's amazing - 10 years wow. I will have a look at Bowel Cancer UK too. I hope that a good state of mind can actually help. I like to make gratitude lists and make the most of each day when I'm feeling good. I've been making greeting cards with my photography which I absolutely love!
Thanks again for all your help and support. How is everything with you and is your mum well?
Lucy
All good really . Mum is entering her 12 th year and a few issues have cropped up with the effects of chemo and surgery . But she presses on regardless. Like you she is by nature a positive person . She listened to her body and did what was required of her . It was great when she got to a treatment free stage .
That’s a great plan . One of the other forums has a thread called “ three good things” where they seek out the good despite the chaos! Your gratitude journal sounds very therapeutic.
I paint small watercolour cards . Love the sound of your photography. ( just a hobby for me ) . This time I found a company to print a few so going to do a bit more . Just for friends and family but I quite like seeing progress .
We have a “ catch up thread “ if you ever feel like showing us your cards .
I used to be an occupational therapist so we did a lot of projects whilst my mum was in chemo . It was really therapeutic. After it stopped we could at least chart some of the things we had done or created . Mum could not always participate but she could direct the proceedings and give her opinions.
Take care ,

Sorry to hear about health issues. I hope it's not too serious. Chemo can take quite a toll on our bodies. Your mum sounds amazing. So inspirational and strong.
Your watercolour cards sound lovely. I did some painting recently and it was so relaxing. I would love to join the catch up thread and share artwork.
Take care,
Lucy
Great. Look forward to seeing it . Just pop over . I call my self “ Instagram “ or “ you tube “ taught but it’s therapy and I enjoy it . That’s the main thing ,
