2 days off husbands liver resection after APR surgery

I noticed that your post hadn’t received a reply yet so I’m bumping it to the top of the discussions again and hope it will be seen by others with experience of this surgery.

I had two major surgeries 9 weeks apart, and it was tough, but it’s amazing how the body copes. It’s natural to be nervous of course, but it sounds like your husband did well after the APR and will hopefully recover well from the liver surgery too. It will be a very long day for you waiting for the surgery to be done-my poor partner found that very hard, while I was blissfully unaware!

I hope we do its the third one we've been given! Been a bit chaotic tbh. Anyway super best wishes this time tomorrow it'll be done and dusted! 

That’s difficult as my hubbys cancelled one was as your arrange and prepare with work etc then have yo re-plan

My mum had two liver resections . She said she found it easier to heal from than the bowel surgery . I think healing depends on the volume they remove . The first surgery she had four wedge resections and was out sea kayaking six weeks later.  The second one was a larger resection removing 73% of her liver . Recovery was much slower but each month as the liver regenerated you could see her improve . Six months later she was fully recovered and you would never know she had surgery .

She had to watch out for hernias.  

I would get a bit of advice from the dietitian if you can about the best foods to eat . 
She never looked back though . It was the best thing she could have gotten . I don’t think she was in surgery for six hours although it felt like it as they kept her in recovery for a long time so don’t be surprised if you don’t hear anything for a while . The tools they use are amazing . As it cuts the same tool seals it closed .

I carried the weight of seeing her straight after surgery around with me for years . One day during casual conversation she mentioned she actually had very few memories of that time as she was on pain meds . Two weeks makes a big difference in the early days so hold onto that .

I’ve been tonight he is pretty tired x had some conversation but he’s been sick a few times probably from the medication x
