Morning all

this is my first time. I was diagnosed yesterday with bowel cancer that has spread to my liver and they see spots on my lung. I have to have an MRI and Pet scan to see extent but my mind has blown. Will I die from this ?
has anyone here had a similar diagnosis. I’m struggling- the consultant really didn’t give much information apart from saying I need more scans and that I will have chemo . Is it treatable, curable. I’m so frightened. I’m only 52

  • Thank you ! How long ago did u dump orchestra? I was offered on weds but wavered and said no because my consultant ( who I meter found out was actually a registrar) didn’t “sell” it very well and made a point that I would have to delay chemo to have a liver biopsy first.. which he didn’t seem keen about. I think it now maybe too late ti go back on my decision as they says the trial had closed but if my biopsy , when sent to the Netherlands was accepted I would be let in. I think I’ve missed the boat.

if my results made me eligible would they not offer all the gizmos through the nhs do u think ??

gonna YouTube Yang 52 lol x

  • Get u - would travel ANYWHERE for best surgeons Rofl

  • Hi Phoenix

If that bird has flown dont let it bother you.

The answer to your q. Is that the active 50 per cent get an all singing..dancing offer.

Necessarily that is not guaranteed or all actually available on the NHS.

I jumped ship.in June 2022 as the passive arm was assessed by me....to not be in my best interests.

You must be in Southampton as thats the only centre outside London participating.. 50 hospitals in the Netherlands are in the game.

Dont be disheartened. If you were considered then you must be fit..never had an operation blah blah.

So in summary you'll get through the standard regime . Remain positive. All to play for. There is not much evidence that all the wizzy stuff adds a lot anyway.

There are no targeted treatments for G12f mutations so you have a better chance than me of survival.

Embrace the poison...its a friend. With some luck you will tolerate it well. Try not to be afraid. Nasty but a friend.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you Anthony- I appreciate your support. Yeah who knows what will work for us and what won’t. We just have to put our faith in the experts and hope our bodies do there best to make good

hope you have good luck too!

  • Hi

late to the chat sorry consumed with my own journey pretty much the same as you,  Aged 46 bowel cancer was found following Fit test and then surgery to remove told no spread and didn't need chemo, and then an MRI of the liver found 4 lesions. Now preparing for chemo 1st session on Friday.

been given some great tips from people

Let me know how you are getting on we can do this !!!

  • Hi, sorry regarding your news

It’s a tuff time hearing this news never gets any easier. I was diagnosed with small bowel cancer 10 years ago had surgery and adjuvant chemo was discharged from hospital and since been leading my best life since until last year when a Ct scan for something else found lots of abnormalities. Long story short my cancer had made another appearance in both my lungs I’ve 15 spots/tumours in my abdomen and bottom of my spine. So I thought it’s stage 4 was advised incurable and not operable. I’ve had no treatment for a year had no symptoms so have done a lot of traveling in that time. I was asked if I wanted a prognosis to which I replied no as I want to concentrate on living not dying. The oncologist advised me when I asked will this kill me yes.

We have  now started treatment on Friday to be 12  cycles . Immunotherapy oxilaplatin and folfox picc line and pump. First one over when pump disconnected tonight I’m going out shopping next week. Live your best life if you can. Don’t waste a moment. Thinking of you. Xx

  • Let’s keep in touch. What chemo are you getting?. Xx

    Cath

    1.   I am so surprised they said no chemo - wouldn’t they offer maintenance after surgery? Surely that’s not right. Will u get surgery after chemo ? Good luck for Friday x
  • Great advice - once u come to terms with it park it and enjoy what you can when you can. Am hoping I can take my own advice real soon lol xx

  • Hi,

As you say once you get your head around it which you probably never really do you can learn to use your time wisely. Let’s face it we are our own statistic no one really knows it’s all guess work how long anyone has.

Go and do the things you want to do put it all in a box until you need to take it out that’s what I’m trying to do. Keep in touch xx
