Morning all
this is my first time. I was diagnosed yesterday with bowel cancer that has spread to my liver and they see spots on my lung. I have to have an MRI and Pet scan to see extent but my mind has blown. Will I die from this ?
has anyone here had a similar diagnosis. I’m struggling- the consultant really didn’t give much information apart from saying I need more scans and that I will have chemo . Is it treatable, curable. I’m so frightened. I’m only 52
thank you Anthony that is so lovely of you to send that. I guess none of us ever know when our time is up - with or without cancer - trying to tell myself that so I don't get het up on the time line!
will definitely keep the exercise going. I'm not very good with healthy eating - just not a fan of vegetable's so will have to find a way to disguise them to eat them!
what is fan dancing??
get you re Zurich, you go into a blind panic don't you initially when you think all hope is gone but hope is all we have. good luck and will keep in touch
thank you
sally
Thats fantastic news...are you hungry yet? take your time and hopefully in no time you'll be back on your feet. it must be such a relief that the op is done and now its all about recovery and getting home.
So Hope Mr Rees will consider me but like you say i need chemo first to see how I respond and take it from there. I think Southampton are good but more with bowel than liver. Here's hoping!!
Good advice from Anthony , I believe exercise has played a huge part in my longevity and has helped me bounce back from the surgeries. In fact the last two surgeries wouldn't have even taken place if I didn't pass the fitness tests. Fan dancing...I was wondering the same, not heard of that one.
As for healthy eating, I have a nutribullet and chuck all sorts into it every morning, kiwis, plums, frozen spinach, berries. Whiz it all up in a minute, so easy and a great way of getting goodness into you, especially on the chemo days when you won't feel up to eating much.
Xx
Yes I'm def hungry and can't stop thinking about the smarties in my bag, they're like contraband!
It's def Basingstoke for the liver and Southampton for the bowel (they have a complex team) I'm taking part in a trial here in Southampton for intraoperative radiotherapy and it's the only hospital in the country with the machine.
Get started with the chemo and just take one step at a time. Xx
oh wow what trial is that? they offered me the orchestra trial but I'm not sure they really sold it to me that well and even if accepted would only have a 50% chance of receiving the "extra" treatment. But i did ask if not on the trial and responding well would they offer me surgery ect - he said yes but he just sounded like i would not get to that position.
if you have any details of your trial I would be really interested to ask my consultant about it. I'm with Dr Luke Hill...you have same or different?
thank you xx
Hi Phoenix
I was on the Orchestra Trial but dumped it after being randomised into Capox only.
It's worth a punt for you.
If you dont get what you want...offer "buyers remorse" as the reason. If you get on the good half...every Wizzy gizmo is available to you.
The downside of dumping the Trial...if you dont get the outcome you want... is that you will receive a lecture on medical ethics ..."Equipoise Doctrine".
The upside of dumping ..was that I met a wonderful Professor who is both erudite and operates smoothly in a resource contrained environment to secure anything available.
Equipoise is basically nonsense. Grit teeth and say nothing.
My unequivocal advice is go for Orchestra.
I can post stuff...links if you are wavering. Interim results blah blah.
All.this stuff is on the Dutch Cancer Society website
1.Fan dancing? It's a form based exercise routine in Tai Chi. Look up Yang 52 fan dance on Youtube. Addictive.
2.Buy a gumshield for the Oxy. . Put in hot water. Mould to teeth. Stops biting your tongue off.
3.80 per cent Registering in Zurich never use the Service. Its a backstop peace of mind stuff.
Good luck...its a helluva ride
