Morning all

this is my first time. I was diagnosed yesterday with bowel cancer that has spread to my liver and they see spots on my lung. I have to have an MRI and Pet scan to see extent but my mind has blown. Will I die from this ?
has anyone here had a similar diagnosis. I’m struggling- the consultant really didn’t give much information apart from saying I need more scans and that I will have chemo . Is it treatable, curable. I’m so frightened. I’m only 52

  •   Hi Cath

immunotherapy is good - it goes straight to the organ doesn’t it and dries it doesn’t it ?!

omg 10 years clear - where was the cancer initially?
good luck on your journey xxx

  • Yeah  , it was brought forward a week, such a nice feeling knowing I would still be in theatre right now but it's all behind me!  I'm doing well thanks, now in a ward and slowly but surely getting there.x

  • Mr Rees and his team are the best and he will take on trickier liver resection.  Yes, I would imagine they will want to see some shrinkage first or at the very least stability.

I think I will probably be in another week or so, haven't had food yet, hopefully tomorrow! Xx

  • The cancer was originally in my small bowel. I had a right hemi colectomy followed by adjuvant chemo. Yes I was clear for 10 years we all thought I was cured. It’s came back as stage 5 in both my lungs over 15 to be exact outside the bowel and base of my spine the sacrum,

This will be the first line of chemo since diagnosed last year. My oncology said it’s not curable and inoperable.

Im getting immunotherapy then oxilaplatin followed by another chemo any remember the name. I will be on from 10am tomorrow til 6pm to 7pm note looking forward to it but has to be done, xx

  • Dear Phoenix

Sorry to be so late replying.

Dont be disheatened. The median point survival for us is 20 months. But those cohorts are skewed by patients with supplemental problems.

On receiving the news i arranged an assisted suicide in Zurich....however things turned out differently for me.

They also can for you. Be hopeful and grasp the ghastly treatments as a path to life.

Chemo removed the liver mets for me and despite having a  KRAS mutation 5 year survival looks possible.

Retain your hope. Wait to see how things go and do everything you can to stay the course.

That involves exercise, diet and doing the stuff you enjoy.

I have taken up fan dancing again. Love it.

Try out qui gong exercise sequences and buy a yoga bolster. Its not possible to perform balance exercise on chemo. Do the stuff sitting on a bolster and mat.

Tgere are lots of exercises on youtube. Let me know if you want pointers. You will live it. Gentle exercise, patience, practice, perseverance...tgats the mantra.

    Stay cool.

  • Hi Cath

Glad to hear you're starting your treatment at last. I'm still going strong on Panitumumab and Capecitabine. Wishing you all the best and hope it's not too bad.
