When I was in for a biopsy, they discovered that I have diabetes. It's not lifestyle related - I'm a good weight and eat healthily. In fact, I've lost a lot of weight, which is apparently a symptom. Of course, we all assumed the significant weight loss was due to the cancer. I am reeling a bit. My levels were so high that they thought the machine must be broken! Now have a regime of finger pricks and will need to have the chemo taken into account with the meds I have been put on to control it (which are working). Has this happened to anyone else? I have read that there is a link between the 2 diseases which is poorly understood.

Hi
You have just furthered my knowledge. I never knew that but following your post I had a look at the research and colon cancer does seem to get a mention !
So sorry to hear that , neither did I know diabetes can have weight loss .
I have linked in a Macmillan leaflet that was produced in cooperation with Diabetes U.K. just in case you have not stumbled upon it !
I find pubmed search engine quite good for some of the medical research stuff if your interested !
I read it’s type two diabetes that has the association. Is that similar to what you have been told !
Hope we can support you as you navigate both conditions.
Take care ,

I'm learning about it too! Diabetes can also be made worse by stress, and I have had an exceptionally stressful year (before the diagnosis...)
Thank you as ever for your response, Court. I get my cancer treatment plan on Tuesday, so it will be good to know what's going to happen and stage and type. as everyone says, waiting is hard.
Lesley
All the best for tomorrow hope getting your plan takes this a step forward for you !
Stress is so debilitating but it’s tough on our physical health too !
