Had surgery for stage 3 bowel Cancer 8 weeks ago. Recovery good. Cancer was in seven out of twenty lymph nodes so started Folfox Chemo last week (managable so far!). Oncologist just informed me recent CT showed something in the liver (all CT's and MRI's were clear prior to surgery). She said it may be nothing, but an MRI is needed and that often, if Cancer is found, a break from Chemo is given after 3 months, liver resection is then given, followed by remaining 3 months Chemo.
Does anyone know how successful tbis long term?? It's not the best news I've had recently and I feel so healthy lately!
Hi Nettie123
Oh , so sorry to hear you have to go through this ! However the liver can have benign lesions that the MRI can rule out . If it should turn out to be a met it sounds as though it is a small tumour burden which seems operable . Long term my mum had over ten tumours removed from her liver over two years and is ten years clear next month ! Not only that , the liver being the most incredible organ regenerates .
There are people ahead of my mum who continue to do well .
My mum had a different protocol in that she had six cycles then liver surgery but no further chemo . That was the protocol at the time my mum’s oncologist preferred.
The liver surgeons are highly skilled and took very good care of her .
Its a big shock for you but bowel cancer spread to the liver is a bit more fortunate than some other primary cancers in that regard .
Take care ,

Hi Court
Thank you so much for your swift reply. You really are a 'Community Champion' - responding to so many people so swiftly and with such positivity. Thank you.
I have to admit, my initial reaction was to inform her (my oncologist) that I wouldn't agree to any more surgery...I was in panic mode, but I'm sure she realised this. She's a wonderfully calm, patient person!
I've now created a profile and will udate it as treatment progresses.
Have just read your profile. Best wishes to you and your Mum.

Hi Nettie123
I think a lot of people would have that response and it sounds reasonable to me . You need time to digest the information and find your feet with it whilst some of it is still very much an unknown. It always took my mum a few days then she would announce she had “ found her focus” and ready to proceed .
You sound as though you have a great oncologist. My mum’s was wonderful but she is now in the past tense as she got discharged. .
Hope things ease for you and a good plan for going forward .
