Hi my mom was diagnosed with bowel cancer seven months ago and had a stent fitted as growth was really aggressive and they said if she didn't have it she wouldn't have much time left. She is 85 years old and suffers with copd so there was no other treatment available. We have had good days and bad days but recently more bad days she has been put on morphine tablets and is now taking oral morphine as well. We have decided to opt out of hospital towards end as with covid restrictions no one can visit her, we are very close and although she has a big family I am the only one who lives in Norfolk.  The only difference with home and hospital really is the pain relief is a bit stronger. My mom feels that covid is getting more attention than people with cancer and feels like she has been forgotten a little bit.  What sort of help is out there for her

  • Hi

That is just awful for your mum to have those feelings . I certainly see your point about staying home if possible . Although my friend went into a hospice it was very limited. They were great and family got in once a day . We also managed patio visits but it was tough .
In her own home you can sit with her and have more freedom .

I think our helpline staff would be able to guide you in terms of care packages 0808 808 0000 . Who to contact in your area . I think Marie Currie are still offering some overnight care with appropriate PPE .
But the helpline will be more informed .
Send your mum our love .

    take care ,
